HC notice to Punjab Govt on plea to evict Bhattal

Chandigarh, February 14
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued a notice to the Punjab Government on an application seeking eviction proceedings against former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal from government accommodation in a posh area of Chandigarh. The court has asked the government to file its reply by March 5 when the matter comes up for resumed hearing.

The notice came after an application filed by lawyer Surinder Pal Singh Tinna came up for hearing. In his application, Tinna submitted that the state had not initiated eviction proceedings under The Public Premises (Eviction of unauthorised occupants) Act 1971 despite a notice having been served on Bhattal under Section 4 of the Act.

Tinna sought directions to the state government to conclude the eviction proceedings within a reasonable timeframe.

It was further alleged that the authorities under the influence of their political bosses were misleading the court by saying that notices had been issued to Bhattal.

The issue of evicting Bhattal is currently pending decision before Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Tinna has filed the PIL against the “illegal” and “forcible” occupation of government houses by high-profile politicians, former ministers, MLAs and retired bureaucrats in prime sectors of Chandigarh.
