The police has arrested a retired Major with the Army for sexually assaulting three minor girls on the pretext of giving them toffees and chocolates.

Snarl-ups add to chaos, violators challaned

Youngsters converged on the Panjab University campus to celebrate Valentine’s Day. By afternoon, to regulate the huge traffic moving through the lone gate opened for security reasons, the authorities had to open the other two gates as well.

Subject specialisation issue raised

The issue of teachers teaching subjects other than that of their specialisation cropped up at the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) General Body Meeting, held on Wednesday. A teacher at University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) revealed that from the past four years he had been teaching different subjects other than the subject of his specialisation.

The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Rajnish Kumar Sharma, today imprisoned 11 persons found drunk while driving till the rising of the court.

Constable assaulted 
Chandigarh, February 14
A UT police constable, who was on a patrolling duty on Valentine’s Day, was allegedly assaulted by two youths, including the son of a judge, at a park in Sector 20 today.

Two bodies found on railway track in Ind Area
Chandigarh, February 14
Two bodies were found on railway track near Industrial Area, Phase II here. Investigating officer, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Jagdish Kumar said the body of an unidentified person was found on the track near gas agency. He said the victim was between 40-45 years of age. The victim died after he was hit by a vehicle, Kumar added. Another body of one Laxmi Chand (65), a resident of Ram Darbar, was found on the track.
