Netaji remembered
: Rich tributes were paid to Netaji Subhash Chander Bose on his 116th birth anniversary, during functions held at the Government Model High School and at Ekta Colony, respectively.

Patiala girl raped:
A resident and a 38- year old man from Hisar have been booked for kidnapping and raping a Patiala-based girl. The girl has stated in her complaint that Mamta, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Colony, sat with her in a bus at the Patiala bus stand. The victim said she was going to visit her relatives in Ludhiana, but Mamta took the victim to her house at Tibba road. The victim stated to the police that Mamta offered her sedatives following which she fell unconscious. Next day, when the victim opened her eyes she was told that she was in Hisar. She said a 38- year- old man tired to rape her, but she managed to escape.

Ropar
Two brothers held for murder:
The local police has claimed to have arrested two brothers accused of murdering a buffalo merchant here on Wednesday. The accused have been identified as Varinder Singh alias Lalli and Lakhwinder Singh alias Babbu (28). Both the accused were residents of Manak Majra village, said Ropar Senior Superintendent of Police Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti. He said the two were drug addicts and were involved in many cases of snatching. On December 15, Avtar Singh, resident of Thona village, was found lying unconscious near Simbal Jhalian village. He had suffered head injuries and Rs 20,000 was missing from the spot. The victim died at PGIMER, Chandigarh, the next day.

MLA to protest against govt: The local MLA Charanjit Singh Channi has decided to sit on a hunger strike in protest against the apathetic attitude of SAD-BJP government towards the theme park project of Saka Chamkaur. In case the state government fails to resume work on the project within a fortnight, he would start his hunger strike in front of Gurdwara Sri Katalgarh Sahib situated at Chamkaur Sahib, he said. The project was inaugurated on December 21, 2006 by the then chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh in the memory of two elder sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh.

40-yr-old beggar raped in Ropar: A 40-year-old beggar was allegedly raped by two unidentified persons at Bharatgarh near here yesterday night. The victim, who stayed at the Chandigarh railway station, said one of the accused brought her to Bharatgarh on the pretext of providing her a job and raped her along with his accomplice. the victim came in contact with a person in Chandigarh, who introduced himself to her as Chandervir.

Sangrur
Sangrur students hired by MNC:
As many as 20 students of a local engineering college have been selected by a software multi-national company from Hyderabad during a placement drive conducted here. Dr Tanuja Srivastava, Director of the college, said the company offered a package of Rs 1.8 lakh per annum to the selected candidates. These candidates were in the fourth semester of their Master of Business Administration and the seventh semester of Bachelor of Technology in different streams.

One held with heroin:
The Goindwal Sahib police has arrested Satnam Singh of Bhai Ladhu village and recovered 255 gm of heroin from his possession. The recovered material was worth Rs 1.3 crore.

A body was found in a park on Wednesday. Kuldeep, who was reportedly playing cards with some persons in the Devilala Park, was hit with bricks resulting in his death.

Three arrested:
The police has arrested Bhim Singh of Ladhuwas village, Brahm Pal and Sunil Kumar of Salhawas village, who allegedly sexually molested three girls, all class XII students and residents of Panchore village, when they were returning home after taking tuitions at Sangwari village on Sunday evening.
