Chamoli tells govt not to allow new slums in Dehradun
Dehradun November 19 Mayor Vinod Chamoli said the state government must ensure that no new slum colonies further developed in the city after the existing ones were legalised. He said those slum dwellers who had the capacity to pay must be made to pay the instalments of the total cost of the land or the house as decided under the scheme. He also emphasised that the state government should also not ignore another proposal which he had sent to the previous state government regarding development of infrastructure and beautification around Bindal and Rispana rivers in the city on the lines of Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad. He said the state government must take into account the catchment areas of Rispana and Bindal rivers as the rivers tend to swell in the rainy season. Hence, the state government must determine a fixed width of the rivers beyond which the slum dwellers could be granted ownership rights, if the state government decided so.
He said the dwellers must be allotted at the maximum 800 sq feet plot or 300 sq feet built-up house on nominal rates. The extra land should
be utilised either to construct infrastructure for the residents or sold out on circle rate. He signalled towards a section of influential or political strata which has occupied a large chunk of land on the banks of rivers such as in Jawahar Colony I and II, saying that the occupants must be made to pay the circle rate. Besides this, he said, those parts of the slum colonies which were situated far from the rivers at secure places and were
benefiting from amenities such as connecting roads, lights and water supply
could be de-notified. Chamoli said that among 102 slum colonies which were notified in 1999,
and 27 other colonies identified in 2008, many were those such as Khala Basti and Deep Nagar where land
'pattas' were distributed by the gram panchayat but the Revenue Department did not update the information in their record, and the land was registered in the name of the DMC only. He said there were other such slum colonies where 'pattas' were distributed before the formation of the DMC and the record regarding them was not available anywhere. The district administration and the High
Court had rendered them illegal. He said the state government must carefully tread on this issue, as the matter
was sub-judice. He also mentioned some unorganised slum colonies which had come up on the land which came partially under the DMC and revenue land, and demanded their
segregation under the final plan. |

SSP Khurana conducts surprise checks in police stations
Dehradun, November 19 It also shows that if they themselves know so little about the bare essentials, what will they be teaching to their juniors in the police stations. The effects of ignorance can be felt deeper. He further added: " On the wireless set, the entire district police will be able to listen to the conversation. Hence, the SHOs or Cos will remain vigilant about their work and will be careful not to be negligent. This will make them pull up their socks." Meanwhile, Khurana also visited various police stations and posts in plain clothes in his personal car at 12 at night and 7 in the morning and went on rewarding and punishing police personel. He attached Dhara police post in-charge Rishiram Raturi with the police lines and appointed Sub Inspector, police lines, MS Rawat, on Raturi's position. Nobody in the police station could recognise the SSP, who remained there for 20 minutes during checking. As a visitor, no one enquired about his presence and they went on doing their work. Later, he reprimanded Raturi, saying that anybody could come and even steal important documents as no one in the police post was bothered about the visitors. Traffic personnel at Dila Ram Crossing, constable Vir Singh and Subhash Kumar, were praised. Head constable Vinod and Rukmani Pandey at Trimurti Crossing were rewarded Rs 200 each and Karanpur police post in-charge was also given a pat for good work . |
