Moga, October 31 Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, SK Sharma who is personally supervising the investigations, said the police had created pressure on the family members of the alleged accused so that they could persuade their kin to surrender before the police. "The deadline given to the alleged culprits through their family members to surrender by the police is expiring tonight. We hope that if the strategy works properly, they may surrender anytime,” the ADGP said. Adding that the killers most probably left Punjab after committing the crime, Sharma said they could have taken shelter in adjoining states. "We have already set-up many search teams and dispatched them to various locations in search of them", he said. the ADGP said the owners of the white Maruti Swift car, which was used to flee away after committing the crime, had been taken into custody so that the police could give some vital clues about their location. "We have also launched a hunt to search this car,” he said. With regard to the investigations conducted by the police, SK Sharma said it has been established that the killers had a 'revengeful attitude' but the exact reason could be ascertained only after their arrest. Keetu was shot dead by his three nephews Jaspreet Singh, Harpreet Singh and Gurpreet Singh along with three of their associates reportedly over a
property dispute. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who holds the charge of home affairs, today claimed that the police would soon nab all the culprits who gunned down the former SAD MLA Malkiat Singh Keetu on Monday. Accompanied by Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and Rajya Sabha Member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, the Deputy Chief Minister met Keetu's wife Gurdeep Kaur and his son Kulwant Singh to condole the death of the party leader. He recalled that Keetu was a dedicated worker who contributed a lot in strengthening the base of the party. The Deputy CM said the party leadership would stand by the bereaved family in its hour of crisis. Earlier, Sukhbir Badal held a closed-door meeting with the ADGP, Law and Order, SK Sharma and the senior civil and police officials of the district who briefed him about the progress in investigations in the case. |

Man speaks up for disabled son, killed
Bathinda, October 31 SSP Mansa Narinder Bhargav said two brothers, Darshan Singh and Gurmel Singh along with their sons, Gurwinder Singh and Avtar Singh, were nabbed from Gharagna village today within two days of the murder of Bogh Singh of Bhame Khurd village. He said on October 29, the accused Gurmel Singh had allegedly slapped Harjinder Singh, the son of Bogh Singh, while accusing him of entering hs fields. Harjinder is physically challenged. Bogh Singh later confronted Gurmel in the fields for slapping his son, who could not defend himself. However, Gurmel called his brother and son and and other relatives who came armed with guns and sticks. They shot and killed Bogh Singh. The SSP said the accused fled from the village but were caught. They have been booked for murder.

Abohar, October 31 As per the available information, at least 12 persons stormed the cremation ground carrying arms, sharp- edged weapons and
lathis. They inquired about someone who was not present there. The miscreants then opened fire and attacked some of the mourners with lathis and sharp-edged weapons before fleeing. The incident triggered panic forcing scores of mourners to take shelter.
DSP Gurpreet Singh Dhindsa and SHO Balkar Singh rushed to the site along with police force and reportedly collected two empty bullets, sources said. Three persons have been admitted to the emergency ward in the Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital. Police has been deployed in the area to prevent trouble. Notably, this is the second such incident in less than a week. On Sunday, some persons had forcing their entry into a house in street number 6 of the old town and attacked some youths. |

Farmers block highway again
Muktsar, October 31 The agitating farmers alleged that a commission agent was under weighing the paddy stock on the ground that moisture level was high in the crop. Irked over this, the farmersthey blocked the road. Naib Tehsildar Sukhbir Singh Brar reached the spot and pacified the protesters and lifted their dharna. Later, Deputy Commissioner Paramjit Singh visited a number of grain markets in the district to review the paddy procurement arrangements and directed the officials to speed up the process. He also told the farmers and arhtiyas to approach him in case of any problem.

Bathinda, October 31 SSP, Mansa, Narinder Bhargav said two members of the gang were nabbed while three others were likely to be nabbed soon. The gangsters had stolen as many as 17 transformers from several villages. They often stole one transformer in Mansa and then crossed over to steal another in Haryana. The police managed to nab two members of the gang, identified as Amandeep Singh alias Amni and Sandeep Singh alias Bila, from a police check-post at Toddarpur village in the district. The accused were riding a motorcycle carrying stolen copper from the transformers. They tried to flee but were nabbed by the police. The SSP said copper wire stolen from six transformers was recovered from their possession apart from nine motor pumps.

Bathinda, October 31 Former MLA Harminder Singh Jassi presided over the function in which the party workers paid homage to Indira Gandhi by offering flowers on her portrait. Jassi recalled her sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country. He said Indira Gandhi was always concerned about the welfare of the poor and downtrodden and took several historical steps to achieve the goal.

New treatment for MDR-TB
Moga, October 31 Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Subodh Gupta said the programme has been further revised with the objective of universal access to quality care of TB for all patients. "The standard recommended length of drug therapy through Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) is six months, which may be extended in some cases but if there is delay and the patients fails to take the full course of treatment, it turns into multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) where first-line drugs are ineffective,” he said.

Man held for raping daughter
Faridkot, October 31 According to police, the accused Pappu, was residing at Jiwan Nagar on Devi Wala Road in Kotkapura along with his daughter. His wife had passed away four year ago. “In the complaint, the sister of the accused claimed that her brother exploited his daughter sexually after her mother's death. The accused also threatened to kill her if she told anybody," said police. Dilbag Singh Pannu, SP (D), said the police registered a criminal case against the father. He has been arrested. The girl has been sent for medical tests.
