New Delhi, July 30
Entire North India was plunged into darkness in the early hours of Monday after the Northern Grid collapsed, throwing normal life out of gear through the day for over 35 crore persons across nine states.

Northern states blamed for Grid collapse
New Delhi, July 30
Holding the northern states responsible for not maintaining grid discipline, top power transmission officials have said that Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan continue to overdraw power and this likely led to the massive grid failure last night, the worst in 11 years since 2001.

Fire personnel douse the fire that broke out in a coach of the Chennai-bound Tamil Nadu Express. — PTI At least 32 passengers were charred to death and 25 others injured today when a massive fire swept through a sleeper coach of the New Delhi-Chennai Tamil Nadu Express near Nellore in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

29 pilgrims die in Bhiwani road crash
Hisar, July 30
As many as 29 persons were killed when a Canter, in which they were travelling, collided head on with a truck near Sainiwas village about 52 km from here on the Hisar-Rajgarh road. The dead included 10 women, 16 men and three children.
While 22 persons died on the spot, seven others died on their way to different hospitals. The injured were given first aid at the general hospital in Siwani, about 30 km from here. They were then rushed to the General Hospital here for treatment. A few others were also sent o the Civil Hospital in Bhiwani.

Gagan Narang is grappling with what he’s got into his hands on Monday afternoon – the bronze orb that, in the eyes of the media and public, validates his being, confirms to them that he’s good, that his life’s work hasn’t been in vain. Gagan Narang has won the first medal for India at London 2012, a bronze in the 10m air rifle event. Narang thus finally stood on the Olympic Games podium at age 29, after going medal-less at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
