Group clash over hoardings’ issue
Phagwara, July 6
Tension prevailed here after violent clashes between two groups over the installation of religious hoardings and boards belonging to different organisations which were holding two congregations (“jagratas”).The boards were being installed to publicise the “jagratas” near Mohalla Dharamkot on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road late last night. An ASI of the Phagwara police Lal Chand sustained injuries while preventing the clash. One person, identified as Shamir Deep, was also injured in the clash.

Hoshiarpur, July 6 Out of 142 polling stations with 192 polling booths, 48 polling stations have been identified as sensitive in Dasuya state assembly segment.

Tension prevailed here after violent clashes between two groups over the installation of religious hoardings and boards belonging to different organisations which were holding two congregations (“jagratas”).The boards were being installed to publicise the “jagratas” near Mohalla Dharamkot on the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road late last night.

An ASI of the Phagwara police Lal Chand sustained injuries while preventing the clash. One person, identified as Shamir Deep, was also injured in the clash.

Phagwara SP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh rushed to the clash site and intervened in the matter to ease the situation. The police had to use mild force to disburse the mob belonging to both groups, as activists of both groups were seen indulging in clashes and were armed with swords, rods and baseballs etc.

The police has registered case under Sections 160/308/148/149/427 of the IPC against more than 100 miscreants.

48 polling stations sensitive in Dasuya

Hoshiarpur, July 6
Out of 142 polling stations with 192 polling booths, 48 polling stations have been identified as sensitive in Dasuya state assembly segment.

This was disclosed by DIG Jalandhar Range Lok Nath Angra in a meeting of the police officials and CRPF officials held at Dasuya last evening to review the arrangements for by-election. Lok Nath Angra said CRPF personnel had been deployed on all the sensitive polling stations to avert any untoward incident. Besides; the police has deployed 2 SPs, 10 DSPs, 320 head constables, 765 constables, 461 SPOs and Home Guard jawans in the constituency. — OC
