Another case in point is with the passage of time, the city has expanded manifolds up to the Verka bypass. Thus Batala road is not a scheduled road," Manish claimed. Association president Harjinder Singh said all the shops were legal and had registered deeds. |
Teachers upset as edu dept withdraws DD powers from officiating principals
Amritsar, April 26 From now onwards, the finance related powers would be with the regular principals only. However, the decision has not gone down well with the teaching community. In some cases, especially in rural area schools, they would have to cover a distance of up to 20 kms to clear their dues, the further said. Even the workload of regular principals would increase manifold. Official figure reveals that there is a shortage of 21 head masters in high schools. Similarly, there is a shortage of 26 principals in 90 senior secondary schools of the district. Some of the schools, which have no regular principals, are located in Jabowal, Jhajiwadi, Dhulka, Bhindi Saiddan, Ramdass, Chamiari and Gagowal areas. The District Education Officer (secondary), Sukhwinder Singh, said to settle financial matters, the schools, where posts of principal are vacant, have been attached with schools with regular principals. "A list has been released in this connection", he said. "To easy the burden on principals, we will request the department to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible". In the backdrop of the government decision, it has been learnt that the officiating principals across the state, who have been performing the duties for the past many years, have filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the plea that they should be given an equal scale as applicable to regular principals. The court decision was pronounced in their favour only. The court in its recent judgment had also instructed the government to release full scale to them, as applicable to regular principals. An education department official, preferring anonymity, said there is a difference of about Rs 2,500 per month between the salaries drawn by officiating principals and regular principals and this difference collectively rolls in to crores. "To prevent further damage, the government has ordered to withdraw the DD powers of these officiating principals. But, the decision would definitely upset the system", he said. From now onwards, the finance related powers would be with the regular principals only |
