Jalandhar, February 16
All set to take on their opponents in the World Series Hockey (WSH) starting from February 29, the Sher-e-Punjab hockey team was seen in action during a training camp, which started at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park, this evening.

The camp started under the guidance of former Indian hockey coach Rajinder Singh with team players practicing on their home turf with gusto, as six matches of Sher-e-Punjab team would be held on the same turf.

Skipper Prabhjot Singh gave tips to his team players. A dedicated player in one instance and a jovial person off the turf, Prabhjot was leading his men with fine captaincy skills. Clad in a yellow jersey, he was spotted taking the team along gearing them for the first season of the WSH series.

Talking to Jalandhar Tribune, the ace forward said: “If I will not maintain discipline and order in the game, how will I motivate my team players to perform better. We have started on time and every single second has to be dedicated in winning every game with excellence.”

All eyes on the WSH title, Prabhjot said that this is the best phase of the Indian Hockey as the first season of the WSH is finally going to start, paving way for many budding players to launch themselves on a grand level.

“As five foreign players are also part of Sher-e-Punjab, we will get a wonderful chance to pick good hockey skills from them too. After all how many times one gets a chance to play together with all the foreign players on such a big platform? To add upon it we have a good coach, with whom we share a wonderful chemistry”.

Prabhjot said: “Apart from assuring good financial assistance to every player, WSH would go a long way in promoting the national game of the country. WSH has given a big ray of hope to scores of players to get a chance of being noticed”.

Talking about the scope of WSH, Prabhjot said, “If Indian Premier League (IPL) can become a success saga in no time, then why not WSH? As WSH is based on the lines of IPL, it will help in generating interest among the hockey players and fans too. This is great beginning and WSH will also be a big name like IPL in the coming days.”

Head coach of the team, Rajinder Singh said that they were looking forward to some of the team members including the foreign players, who were yet to join the training camp. “The team is a mix of both the leading hockey players as well some newcomers from different departments. Once the entire team members get together we will further have more well trained practice sessions”, he added.
