Nawanshahr, February 14
A special medical check-up camp was organised for the jaundice patients by NRIs Jaspal Singh Dhesi and Sahib Singh Dhesi in collaboration with Satinder Kaur Kariha, wife of late SAD MLA Jatinder Singh Kariha and municipal councillors Jinderjit Kaur, Param Singh Khalsa and SGPC member Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa at Mohalla Gobindgarh here today.

Dr Vineet Kaur Dang, MD (Medicine) from PIMS, Jalandhar, examined 240 persons and found about 200 persons suffering from jaundice. Out of them, the condition of 10 patients was found to be serious and they were taken to PIMS, Jalandhar, for treatment. The NRIs’ family would bear the treatment expenses of the patients admitted to PIMS, Jalandhar. The clinical tests were done free of cost and free medicines were provided to the patients.

The town has been under the grip of jaundice for the past couple of weeks and as per the survey conducted by the Health Department, about 400 cases of jaundice have been found in the town, thanks to the leakage of the sewerage manholes, contamination of drinking water supply and deplorable condition of sanitation prevailing in the town.

Muskan (10), daughter of Hardip Kumar of Nai Abadi, reportedly died of jaundice yesterday.

After the outbreak of the jaundice, Deputy Commissioner, Shruti Singh constituted teams, headed by the Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar, BDPOs and Executive Officers of the Nawanshahr, Banga, Balachaur and Rahon and comprising officials of the Health Department and Sewerage Board, under the supervision of the SDM, Neeru Katyal Gupta, who has been appointed as the nodal officer.
