Bathinda, December 6
During the ensuing Punjab Assembly elections, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will allot 20 to 22 party tickets to the workers and leaders of the Youth Akali Dal (YAD), the youth wing of the SAD.

To a query, national senior vice-president of the YAD Gurpreet Singh Malooka said here today that this time the YAD would get five to six party tickets more as compared to the previous Assembly elections. He said the party had given about 16 tickets to the YAD for February 2007 Assembly elections. However, the names of the seats could not be disclosed at this stage, he added.

Malooka was interacting with the media persons after releasing the list of office-bearers and members of the working committee of the Bathinda district unit of the YAD. He said the list, contains the names of 142 office-bearers and working committee members, including senior vice presidents, general secretaries, vice presidents, secretaries, organising secretaries, propaganda secretaries, and press secretary.

Malooka said while preparing the list of office-bearers loyalty towards the party and hard work had been made the criterion. He said he expected that they would play a major role in the ensuing Assembly elections. He also said the Congress would not stand anywhere in front of the SAD-BJP's development agenda as the Congress had no poll issue.

With regard to Capt Amarinder Singh's statements against the SAD leaders, Malooka said the Congress leadership was in a frustration mood as the vote bank of the Communists, which had earlier remained with the Congress, was now with the 'Sanjha morcha' of Manpreet Singh Badal.

He also said the YAD would do extensive work for eradicating the social evil of drugs. He said the YAD would not extend any type of help to the person who would be found indulging in drug-trade. Rather it would suggest the police to initiate stern action against him, he added.

Abohar, December 6
Vehemently refuting the allegations levelled in the suicide note reportedly left behind by a farmer Vinod Kumar Yadav after consuming celphos tablets on the cooperative bank premises here on Monday, the Punjab Agricultural Development Cooperative Bank (PADB) chairman Sukhdarshan Singh Marahad claimed that only a purse and two mobile phones were recovered during the search after death of the farmer. How the suicide note was circulated, needs to be probed.

Marahad along with PADB Employees Union president Mehanga Singh reached here, on a fact-finding mission today, after going through the reports about the unfortunate incident.

He said the bank staff had shifted the victim immediately to the Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital yesterday but he died.

Rejecting the allegation that bank officials had promised to get loan worth Rs 50 crore sanctioned, Marahad said maximum limit for sanctioning the loan was Rs 16.50 crore. Infact, he claimed, deceased Vinod Kumar Yadav had availed of loan thrice and repaid it promptly.

There appears to be some deep-rooted conspiracy behind the suicide and hand written note to implicate the bank officials, he alleged.

The PADB Employees Union president Mehanga Singh also described it “conspiracy hatched by some miscreants” who had used Vinod Kumar Yadav to meet vested motives. The incident had demoralised our staff, we will meet the higher officials to demand fair and transparent investigation, both said. Meanwhile the police have registered a case under Section 306A against two officials of the local branch of the agricultural development bank.
