Health dept skips wedding parties

The wedding season is in full swing and marriage palaces as well as caterers are busy in their business. Perhaps there is hardly any palace in the city which has not been booked. But the health department which is otherwise supposed to be active for collecting samples of eatables seems to be avoiding the wedding parties.

Forgets its orders on dengue mosquito!

Ex-SP duped of Rs2 lakh

Let alone the common man, even retired senior police officers are not being spared by con men, who promise high monthly interest after an investment of a few lakh rupees. A retired superintendent of police (SP) Sukhwinder Singh Uppal, resident of Sarabha Nagar Extension, is the latest victim of one such fraudster, who duped the former of Rs 2 lakh.

Maidservant commits suicide 
Ludhiana, December 4
A 16-year-old maidservant allegedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances at a house in Model Town here. According to the police, preliminary investigation indicated that the girl, identified as Puja, committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan.

Woman found dead, husband unconscious

A 25-year-old woman, Satbir Kaur, died under mysterious circumstances at her Canal Enclave residence on the Pakhowal road here today. Her husband Davinder Singh, who was found in an unconscious state, is undergoing treatment at the Civil  Hospital.

The Rotaract Club of the DMCH, under the aegis of the Rotary Club, Ludhiana Greater, on Friday collected old clothes and distributed these among the needy. The campaign for the collection of clothes for the needy will continue till December 14.

Man dies of dengue
Phillaur, December 4
A Goraya resident, Sarvesh Kumar, died of dengue at a Ludhiana hospital last night. The deceased had been suffering from high fever and was diagnosed with dengue.

With the biweekly (19771/19772) Amritsar-Jaipur Express running behind schedule for hours due to dense fog and poor visibility on certain sections, the Northern Railway authorities have decided to suspend the train for a period of one month.
