US blocks Indian basmati import over pesticide traces
Chandigarh, November 30
The most prestigious market for Indian basmati rice, the USA, has put on hold all consignments of the rice being imported there. In a major setback to Indian basmati exporters, the US Food and Drug Authority has refused to accept basmati being exported to that country, on account of traces of pesticides found in the food grain.

Even as pressure mounted on Pakistan to attend the Bonn conference on the future of Afghanistan, Pakistan today turned down an offer for a joint inquiry into the attack by NATO gunships on two Pakistani posts. It also stuck to its decision to disallow supplies to NATO troops in Afghanistan and to ask the US to vacate the air base in Pakistan.

Petrol price further cut by 78 paise a litre
New Delhi, November 30
Petrol prices have been cut by 78 paisa per litre (from midnight tonight) following a drop in international crude oil prices.

How Haryana changed its mind on honour crime laws
New Delhi, November 30
Last November, Haryana took a position before the Supreme Court, currently hearing the honour killing petition, that it agreed with the Centre in amending existing laws to ensure strict action against those involved in honour crimes. A few months down the line, the state took a new position, dissociating itself from the pro-Centre stand it had taken earlier.
