Bathinda, November 26
The prevailing foggy weather conditions that intensified on Friday prompted the railways to prepone the cancellation and the partial cancellation schedule of the trains, including those that pass through Malwa in general and Bathinda in particular.

As per the sources, the railway decided that as this year, the smog and the fog together have occurred earlier than in the previous years, the decision was taken “for the safety of the rail passengers.” The cancellation will now be effective from December 1, instead of December 20, as announced earlier.

The railway's decision would affect the movement of three trains touching Bathinda for nearly two months. As per railway sources, train no. 19771-19781 that run between Jaipur and Amritsar will be cancelled between December 1 and January 31, 2012. Similarly, train no. 19772 and 19782 that run between Amritsar and Jaipur would be suspended from service from December 2 to February 2, 2012.

Moreover, the railway has also decided to cancel the train No. 14711 that runs between Haridwar and Sriganganagar and train no. 147112 that runs between Sriganganagar and Haridwar, from December 1 to January 31 next year.

However, train No. 13007 Hawrah-Sriganganagar would remain partially suspended between Mughal Sarai and Sriganganagar between December 1 and December 20, instead of December 20 and January 31, 2011, as announced earlier. The service of train no. 13008 would be suspended between Sriganganagar and Mughalsarai from December 3 to December 22. Notably, instead of partially cancelling the train for 40 days, the Udhyan Abha Toofan Mail would now be partially suspended for 20 days.

Railway sources said that in case of clear weather conditions, booking for the trains which are cancelled, may be started with a three-day notice with the qualification that the trains may be cancelled in case there is fog. Full refund could be availed by those passengers who have already booked their tickets for the trains which have been cancelled from December 1, sources added.

Ferozepur: The winter fog has disrupted the rail traffic as almost two dozen important trains of the division have been reportedly running behind schedule causing great inconvenience to the passengers besides putting the rail officials of the division on tenterhooks.

Senior Divisional Operating Manager Brijesh Dharmani said that yesterday, around 20 express trains were delayed due to the intense fog in the region.

Dharmani said the important trains which were running behind the schedule included the Dadar Express, Jhelum Express, Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi, Amritsar-Haridwar Shatabdi, Amritsar-Chandigarh Duronto Express, Pooja Express, Sachkhand Express, Pashchim Express, Amritsar-Howrah Express, Jammu Sealdah Express and Hemkunt Express, besides other trains. Dharmani said that at the moment, safety was the main concern. However, the rail officials were trying to normalise the traffic.
