Sudesh Kumari, working as a staff nurse in the local Civil Hospital, and a suspected dengue patient, died last night. She was undergoing treatment at the local Civil Hospital and was referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana after her condition did not improve.

Sources in the hospital maintained that she died of dengue. However, civil hospital SMO Dr JS Sandhu did not confirm it. Dr Sandhu said she apparently died due to septicemia as coloured fluid was found in her lungs and abdominal cavity in the post-mortem, which was conducted by a panel of three doctors today.

“She was also suffering from fits besides high fever,” said Dr Sandhu, adding that her platelet count was around 75000. He said the exact cause of death would be ascertained when her blood sample report arrives.

Meanwhile, two more suspected dengue patients, who happen to be siblings, were also admitted to the civil hospital where already five suspected patients are undergoing treatment.

Besides, dozen suspected cases have been referred to Ludhiana.

The officials from anti-larva unit of the Health Department today carried out preventive spray in the residential quarters of the doctors and paramedical staff.
