Strongly opposing a plea for probing Home Minister P Chidambaram’s alleged role in the 2G scam, the CBI today contended in the Supreme Court that its investigations in the case were over and any further investigation could be ordered only by the trial court and not by the SC.

Gurdwara panel orders probe into voting by Sehajdharis
Chandigarh, September 20
Gurdwara Election Commission has ordered a probe into the cases of alleged bogus voting and voting by Sehajdharis in the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections held on Sunday. Justice HS Brar (retd), Chief Commissioner of the Gurdwara Election Commission, has asked all Commissioners, who oversaw the election process, to investigate and submit a report immediately.

Fresh landslides in Sikkim; toll 92
3,000 rescued; work on to clear debris and reopen roads
Mangan(Sikkim), September 20
More than 3,000 persons were rescued in quake-hit areas of Sikkim by defence forces which scrambled hard to clear debris of collapsed structures and landslides as the death toll in Sunday's powerful temblor shot up to 92, including 53 in the Himalayan state.

Hope soars for MFN status from Pak
Pak Commerce Minister likely to make announcement next week
New Delhi, September 20
India is hopeful that Pakistan would grant it most favoured nation (MFN) status when its Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim arrives here later this month for talks on promotion of economic and commercial relations as part of the resumed dialogue process between the two countries. India had granted Pakistan MFN status way back in 1996. Fahim is expected to arrive on September 26 and hold talks with Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on September 28-29. He is also scheduled to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and meet some other leaders and officials.
