Ahmedabad next target: Fresh mails

New Delhi, September 9
The Indian Mujahideen in two fresh mails today warned that they would carry out next blast in Gujarat’s Capital Ahmedabad.

The last email (fourth in total ) was sent from gmail id chotoominani5@gmail.com this evening at 6:39 pm from which an electronic message was received yesterday.

It claimed that Indian Mujahideen had executed the Delhi High Court blast after a lot of consideration and also challenged the National Investigation Agency and the Delhi Police to trace the mails.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police headquarters received an email from the IM warning of a ‘cruel blast’ in the future. The fourth mail, which was sent to media houses in Delhi and Mumbai, said the third email received by the Delhi Police headquarters was "correct and updated" and the next attack would be carried out in Ahmedabad.

While talking to reporters, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today admitted that there were ‘promising’, but no conclusive leads in the case. Meanwhile, the Kishtwar-based boy who sent the first mail on Wednesday claiming that the Harkat-ul-Jehad-Islami (HuJI) carried out the blast has been taken into custody. He is teenaged boy known to the owner of the internet café. The youth, whose identity has been withheld, was attending a class in the Government Degree College, Kishtwar, when plainclothes cops swooped on him. Aged 19, the youth is a student of BA Part-I.

A senior police official said the youth could be traced on the basis of a sketch prepared on the description provided by the cyber café employees. Cops went around showing the sketch to college students, some of who identified the youth. It took nearly three hours for cops to narrow down on
the suspect.

A senior police official said the youth as well as Ashwani Kumar — an employee of the Global Internet Cyber Café from where the mail was sent — were questioned on the motive behind the mail and if they were linked with the banned terrorist outfit-HuJI. The police has so far detained and questioned seven persons.

The third mail sent from an ID kill.india@yahoo.com has been cleverly routed through a server based in Moscow which has now been found to be a proxy server as the origin of the mail is elsewhere. National Investigation Agency

sleuths have roped in best IT minds to trace the route of the mail through a web of international servers. A similar group had traced the mail originating from Kishtwar.

The third email is more in line with technology used in previous IM mails as it has ‘masked’ its sender using proxy servers.

However, the IM insignia of two shadowy men holding guns is again missing - that was the case in yesterday’s mail also. The email was received last night on the Delhi Police official email ID. The author names himself as Ali Saed El-Hoorie. The earlier IM mails sent to media houses in 2008 used to have the scanned signature “Al-Arbi”. The email says: “This is to inform you that we Indian Mujahideen claim the terror attack on Delhi High Court. I just want you to pass a message to the Indian government that next blast will be so cruel that you people won't be able to forget it for decays (this word is been read as decades by sleuths)”. The author further says, “If you are willing to know the next attack it is 1,8,5,13,4,1,2,1,4 till you come to know what it stands for the next blast will be done”. The email further says “if you have any question get back soon because we don't have time for anything”. Sources said there is no question of getting back to the ID, the first task is to locate its origin.

Investigators have decoded the numbers by allocating each number to an English alphabet and it word out as ‘Ahemdabad’ though the correct spelling of the city is ‘Ahmedabad’.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the email was written 'amateurishly' but was being taken seriously. "Number 1 reads as A, number 8 reads as H. It seems it is hinting at the next target," he said, adding that Ahmedabad in Gujarat may have been named as the next target. The Home minister stated that a detailed advisory is being issued to the states asking them to take steps for enhanced vigil against similar terror attacks, particularly in metropolitan areas. Owners and management establishments which usually attract large congregations have been advised to ensure strict access control and surveillance in respect of suspicious persons and objects.

The security arrangements in Delhi shall be reviewed shortly. The Central forensic teams have informed that a nitrate was used mixed with an explosive. PETN is one of the nitrates.
