SS Chauhan is new Police Commissioner of city

Dr Sharad Satya Chauhan has become the new Police Commissioner of Ludhiana. He replaces Ishwar Singh, who has been transferred as IG Police, Jalandhar Zone (for both Jalandhar and Ludhiana range). The transfer orders were issued late last evening.

An alleged affair with a girl proved costly to Ranjit Singh, a student of class XII of Jawahar Nagar Senior Secondary School here.According to information, Ranjit Singh, a resident of Ajit Singh Nagar, Basti Jodhewal, was having an alleged affair with one of his classmate Sukhminder Kaur (name changed).

238 examined at medical camp

The Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, organised a free medical check-up camp at Bhatton village. A team of doctors headed by Principal Dr Kanwaljit Singh Ahuja, Dr Rajni, Dr Nisha and Dr Jyoti with paramedical staff examined 238 patients.

MC razes 50 illegal structures

Parking lot contractors fleece us, say residents

After The Tribune highlighted how city residents are being fleeced by parking contractors in the city, several residents today came forward to narrate their experiences. They are upset that the Municipal Corporation has failed to take any action against such erring contractors even as city residents continue to suffer overcharging by indifferent contractors who are out to make a fast buck.

35 unions to meet on July 31 in Ludhiana

Around 35 employees organisations and social organisations will meet at Jawahar Nagar Government Secondary School in Ludhiana on July 31 to intensify their agitation against the government for allegedly having failed to address the issue of Elementary Teachers Training (ETT) paper leak and the suspension of SCERT director Avtar Singh, assistant director Jagtar Singh and circle education officer Roshan Lal Sood on May 30, 2011, said Panjab senior school officers association patron Joginder Singh Aulakh while talking to media persons here today.

Vanmahotsav celebrated
Ludhiana: In the course of Vanmahotsav week celebrations, students of Classes VI to VIII of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School (Jalandhar bypass) carried out a plantation drive. Palm saplings were planted in and around the school premises and an inter-house photography competition was also held.

Gabria under fire
Former District Congress Committee president Krishan Kumar Bawa has asked Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to order a probe into allegations of amassing assets disproportionate to known sources of income against his cabinet colleague Hira Singh Gabria, which were levelled by SAD councillors.

Two gangs of vehicle thieves busted

The local police has claimed to have recovered vehicles worth over Rs 20 lakh from five members of two separate gangs of vehicle thieves. The police had launched a hunt for a scrap dealers who was suspected to be in the trade of purchasing dismantled stolen vehicles.

Gang of robbers nabbed

The Payal police has claimed to have nabbed a four-member gang of robbers who was involved in robbery and snatching incidents in the area.

Councillor held with 25 kg poppy husk
Khamano July 21
The Khamano Police on a tip off arrested a councillor of the ruling Nagar Panchayat, Khamano, and recovered about 25 kg of poppy husk from his possession.


Baseball trials

Over 80 aspirants turned up to attend the two-day baseball trials being organised at the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town here. The Amateur Baseball Federation of India is conducting these trials.
