China slams US over Obama-Dalai talks
Beijing, July 17
Hours after President Barack Obama had an audience with the Dalai Lama, China today summoned top US diplomat here to convey its “strong indignation” over the meeting, saying it amounted to “gross interference” in its internal affairs and damaged the bilateral ties.

SIT probe into Black Money
Centre objects to SC order, says it can’t sideline Parliament, Executive 
New Delhi, July 17
Raising as many as 10 objections, the government has blamed the Supreme Court for “completely eliminating” the roles of the Executive and the Parliament in dealing with the black money problem by ordering setting up of a 13-member Special Investigation Team headed by former apex court judges - BP Jeevan Reddy and MB Shah -- as chairman and vice-chairman.

Indian money in Swiss banks: It’s $2.5 billion, not $1.5 trillion?

The Swiss Central Bank has estimated the total liabilities of Swiss banks toward Indian account holders at about $2.5 billion in 2010 as against the $1.5 trillion figure projected by some political parties and non-governmental organisations.

N-deal with Japan in limbo

The fate of a civil nuclear deal between India and Japan has become uncertain. Tokyo is learnt to have decided to suspend talks with India and four other countries concerning the sale of Japanese-made nuclear power equipment and technology after Prime Minister Naoto Kan’s recent declaration that he wants to phase out the use of nuclear energy.

New Delhi, July 17
The Supreme Court has asked the Punjab and Haryana High Court to check the misuse of the Nahar Singh Stadium at Faridabad for running a bar and restaurant and conducting marriages and other functions. A bench comprising Justices RV Raveendran and HL Gokhale has also asked the HC to find out whether other stadia and sport facilities/complexes in the state were being misused and issue orders for preventing such malpractices.
