36 killed as Kalka Mail derails in UP
13 bogies of the Howrah-Kalka Mail go off the rails at Malwa, 120 km from Lucknow
Lucknow, July 10
As many as 36 persons were reportedly killed and over 210 injured as 15 bogies of the Kalka-bound Howrah-Kalka Mail derailed near Malwa station, 120 km from here. Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Fatehpur, KN Joshi said 36 of the passengers had died. The derailment took place at 12.20 pm when the packed train from Howrah reached near Malwa station, nearly 120 km from Lucknow.

SAI report ready: Ogrodnik, NIS management held responsible
Patiala, July 10
An internal Sports Authority of India (SAI) probe ordered by Sports Minister Ajay Maken into the recent doping fiasco has fixed the responsibility of the lapses primarily on Ukrainian coach Yuri Ogrodnik and the National Institute of Sports (NIS) management. SAI is expected to submit its report to the Sports Ministry, detailing the reasons and possibilities as to how banned substances entered NIS.

In a move that could further strain the US-Pak ties, the Obama administration is suspending and, in some cases, cancelling millions of dollars of aid to the Pakistani military to chasten it for expelling American military trainers, a media report said today. “About $800 million in military aid and equipment, or over one-third of the more than $2 billion in annual American security assistance to Pakistan.

The Centre has rubbished Punjab’s allegation that the former has done nothing to tame the Ghaggar ahead of the monsoon. Reacting to statements by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on the issue, a senior official of the Planning Commission has said that Punjab, apparently for political considerations, has chosen to keep mum over various communications sent to the Punjab Government offering help to tame Ghaggar water.
