Multi-speciality hospital only in name
Kaithal, June 16 The hospital, which started functioning in January 2011, was formally inaugurated in March by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. No doubt, the four-storeyed spacious and elegant hospital building has been constructed on a 12-acre plot in HUDA Sector 18 on the Kaithal-Jind Road bypass at a cost of Rs 18 crore, but the shortage of doctors, paramedical staff and latest equipment in some departments has adversely affected its functioning. Ministers and government functionaries have been claiming that this hospital would be like a “mini PGI” where all types of specialised services would be available and patients will not have to go to other towns for specialised treatment. But till now, the hospital has been working like any other district-level hospital and lacks important facilities. Due to this, patients continue to be referred to other towns as was the practice earlier. Patients coming to the hospital from far-off places demand that the government should act swiftly to make it a multi-speciality hospital in the real sense. The posts of a pathologist and a skin specialist have been lying vacant for long. Only one anaesthesia doctor has been posted here who remains overburdened. At least two more are required. The post of radiologist too has been lying vacant for a long time. Doctors say the government has made several efforts to recruit radiologists for its hospitals, including this one, but qualified persons are unwilling to join government jobs because of better opportunities in the private sector. Besides, two X-ray machines of 300mA and 500mA capacity could not be shifted to the new building as these are out of order. The Health Department has not yet decided whether to get these two machines repaired or install new X-ray machines. Another old small 100mA X-ray machine presently being used is not sufficient to meet the demand. Patients have to rush to private radiology centres in the town located at a distance of about 3 km from the hospital. The existing portable low-capacity machine is unable to cop with the huge rush of patients. Around 700 to 800 patients are being examined daily in the OPD. About 18 doctors in different streams besides paramedical staff are required for the smooth functioning of the hospital. The hospital has not been connected to the hotline to ensure uninterrupted power supply. During power cuts, the functioning of the hospital gets adversely affected. The generator installed here is unable to bear the load of electric equipment. According to information, the hospital has no ultrasound machine of its own and the machine provided by the Red Cross years back is being used. Latest digital X-ray machine is also required for proper diagnosis and investigation by doctors. A major share of the money collected through ultrasound is taken by the Red Cross Society and even poor patients have to pay Rs 110 for an ultrasound test. Only one physician and a surgeon are posted here who have to examine hundreds of patients daily. These doctors, especially the surgeon, also have to go on field jobs like family welfare camps etc. If any one of these doctors is not present, the plight of patients can be well imagined. Meanwhile, medical superintendent SK Nain said though more doctors were needed to provide good services to the patients, the team of existing doctors in various fields worked with dedication and made efforts to provide the best treatment to the patients. He said neonatal ICU, gynaecologists, ortho and dental surgeons and doctors in other streams worked like a well-knit team. He said ambulance service was available as per the government policy and patients availed the service in emergency. Blood bank and vaccination centres were also working smoothly, he added. |

INLD campaign covers 150 villages
Rewari, June 16 District in charge of the campaign Rao Bahadur Singh, INLD MLA Nangal Chaudhary, Rameshwar Dayal MLA, Bawal, district party president Sunil Chaudhary, former Zila Parishad chief Satish Yadav and other prominent party functionaries have made a whistle-stop tour of the above villages. Launching a scathing attack on the misrule of the Hooda regime, Rao Bahadur Singh, Rameshwar Dayal, Sunil Chaudhary and others persistently flayed it for erratic disbursement of old-age pension, continued paucity of electricity and drinking water, increasing frustration among jobless youths, broken roads, rampant corruption and various other ills plaguing the state. Alleging that the Chief Minister had manipulated a majority by resorting to unscrupulous ways and means, they asserted that unceremonious removal of Transport Minister Om Prakash Jain and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Zile Ram Sharma on corruption charges had just taken the lid off the enormous corrupt practices which were being indulged in freely by such supporting legislators on largesse to keep the Hooda government in the saddle. Further ruing the tardy pace of development in the Ahirwal region, they deplored that the Chief Minister was simply focused on the Rohtak region alone. |
Relief cheques given to families of mishap victims

Admn assures villagers on pollution concerns
Panipat, June 16 It is the country’s first and Asia’s biggest plant being constructed by the oil giant to meet the ever-increasing demand for SB rubber which is predominantly used in the production of tyres for cars and light trucks, besides making mats, drain board trays, shoe soles, chewing gum, food container sealants, conveyor belts, sponge articles and others. It is also used in pharmaceutical, surgical, and sanitary products along with food packaging. The project, which is likely to be completed by February next year, had raised apprehensions among the villagers around the refinery that it would wreck havoc on the ecology of the area. Aware of the anxiety shown by the villagers, the district administration organised a special public grievance redressal meeting on the premises of the refinery to listen to the suggestions of the villagers and dispel their fears. Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner JS Ahlawat said besides having state-of-the-art pollution control equipment, the company would be developing a green cover over an area of 19 acre around the refinery. He said the plant would also have a water treatment plant to check any kind of water pollution in the region. It was in January this year that the IOC performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the SBR plant on the refinery premises. The rubber plant is being brought up as a joint venture with Taiwan State Rubber Corporation (and Marubeni Corporation of Japan. IOC's move was considered crucial as the country has only two poly-butadiene rubber (PBR) units at IPCL, Vadodara, while there is no SBR unit in operation currently. As per estimates, the demand for SBR is expected to cross 220 TMTPA a year by 2014-15 with steady growth in the automotive industry which constitutes around 92 per cent of the consumption of SBR in the country. The project is likely to be commissioned by February next year. The deputy commissioner said measures to curtail pollution of any kind were being put in place which would ensure that the delicate ecological balance was not disturbed. |
