Seth is new Cabinet Secy

Ajit Seth, a 1974 batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed the next Cabinet Secretary today.

Known for his efficiency and planning in the bureaucracy, Seth will succeed KM Chandrasekar, who is retiring at the end of June after serving in the capacity for four years, that included two extensions.

Seth (59), who is at present secretary, Public Grievances and Coordination in the Cabinet Secretariat, will serve as an Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat till June 13 and assume charge the next day. He will have a fixed two-year tenure.

Others who were said to be in the fray included Pulak Chatterjee, a close confidant of the Nehru-Gandhi family, and Bihar Chief Secretary Anup Mukherjee.
