Binayak walks out of prison

After remaining behind bars for nearly four months, civil rights activist Binayak Sen was released this evening from the Chhattisgarh central prison where he is serving a life sentence, three days after the Supreme Court granted him bail.

Haryana plans second nuclear power plant

Haryana is betting high on nuclear power. Determined to become self-sufficient in power, the state is now vying with the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to set up a second nuclear power plant at either Bhiwani or Hisar.

Fix time frame for govt sanction: SC
New Delhi, April 18
The Supreme Court today favoured a fixed time frame for governments to grant sanction to prosecute its officials in corruption cases.“There are cases where people (sanctioning authority) are sitting for months. Three months is sufficient time.The remarks were made by the Bench after it refused to stay the Allahabad High Court's order fixing a time period of three months for granting sanction to prosecute officials involved in corruption.

Four Rajdhani coaches catch fire, none hurt
Ratlam (MP), April 18
Hundreds of passengers on board Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express had a miraculous escape when fire broke out in three coaches and the pantry car in the wee hours of today while the speeding train was passing through Rajasthan. No one was injured and all the 1,100-odd passengers travelling in the prestigious train were safe, officials said.

Govt depts rapped for ‘casual’ approach
