China supports greater role for India in UN
In what reflected a “positive change” in Beijing’s stand on India’s inclusion in the UN Security Council as a permanent member, China today joined other BRICS nations in calling for a comprehensive reform of the world body, including the Security Council.

BRICS nations call for reform of financial institutions
Leaders of BRICS countries today met at this sea resort of China to coordinate their stance on major economic and international issues and adopted a far-reaching declaration that, among other things, called for restructuring of international financial institutions to reflect changes in the world economy, thus increasing the voice and representation of emerging economies.

Prolonged cold spell hits wheat harvesting
Jalandhar, April 14
The prevailing cold and inclement weather condition has been a dampener on traditional Baisakhi celebrations which signals that wheat harvesting season was in full flow. It is after a gap of nearly 30 years that such weather conditions have been seen in Punjab where one third of the total wheat production of the state would have been procured by April 13. The procurement officially began on April 1.

Will fly only snag-free aircraft: Pilots’ union
New Delhi, April 14
Referring to media reports of technical troubles aboard Air India planes, a section of pilots under the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) has shot off a letter to the national carrier Air India, pledging to operate only those aircraft which are “snag free”. There are also a lot of media reports relating to flight safety.
