Ratan Tata, Radia grilled by PAC 
Tata states he gave Rs 1,600 cr loan to Unitech
New Delhi, April 4
Noted industrialist Ratan Tata today admitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament that the Tatas had indeed given Rs 1,600 crore to Unitech, but as loan, which was duly returned later with interest.

Road projects along China border behind schedule
Some of them likely to get delayed by around 3 years
New Delhi, April 4
Even as China continues to ramp up infrastructure on its side of the border with India, New Delhi’s progress in building such strategic roads has been dismal. According to information, the government had planned to build additional 277 roads, with a combined length of 13,100 km, on its side of the border with China by 2012. While work is yet to begin on some 80 projects, another 168 are moving way behind schedule. Only 29 roads have been completed so far.

Haryana is known to have a bias against the girl child and the provisional Census figures released last week confirmed the gloomy trend. None of the many initiatives undertaken during the past decade appears to have worked and Haryana, along with Punjab, figures at the bottom of the states with the lowest sex ratio in the country.

SC raps govt on airport ground handling policy
New Delhi, April 4
The Supreme Court today questioned the government on the logic of forcing private airlines to hand over baggage and other ground handling operations to a specialised agency at six major revenue-generating airports, but allowing them to have their own arrangements at high-security-risk places such as Jammu and Kashmir, northeastern states and Punjab.

5.7 quake rocks North India
New Delhi, April 4
A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre in the Indo-Nepal border region, shook North India this evening. There was, however, no immediate report of any loss of life or property. According to Meteorological Department officials, the 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck at 5.02 pm. It was epicentred at Indo-Nepal border. Hopefully, there would be no aftershocks, they said.

Prez Obama to run for second term
