The government’s high-level committee probing “corruption” in the Commonwealth Games today held Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Lt Governor Tejender Khanna and several top bureaucrats responsible for allegedly causing a loss of about Rs 1,500 crore to the exchequer.

Indicted by the VK Shunglu committee looking into the allegations of corruption in the conduct of Commonwealth Games, Delhi's Lt Governor Tejender Khanna today said he did everything in the most transparent manner possible to hold the Games in time and protect the national prestige.

India and Pakistan are set to once again engage in cricket diplomacy to give an impetus to the process of normalisation of bilateral ties which touched their nadir in the wake of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a votary of good neighbourly relations between India and Pakistan, has invited Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Reza Gilani to watch the crucial India-Pakistan semifinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup at Mohali on March 30.

Hotel, factory, wedding halls & golf courses come up on defence land
New Delhi, March 25
A five star hotel, a biscuit factory, several marriage halls, clubs and 97 unauthorised golf courses are thriving on prime defence land spread across the country. The shocking details figure in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) tabled in Parliament today. Slamming the department of Defence Estates that works directly under the Ministry of Defence, the report questions the Army for allowing golf courses on its land without permission.

In a late night development, the agitating Jats in Haryana, demanding reservation in government jobs under OBC quota, withdrew their three-week-long stir after talks with Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Jind.

Earth Hour today: Switch off your lights; 4,000 cities are doing it
Moscow, March 25
Over 4,000 cities - including New Delhi and Mumbai - from 131 countries will turn off their lights during the global Earth Hour event Saturday, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) said Friday. Earth Hour is organised annually on the last Saturday of March by the WWF. Cities participating in the global initiative will not just switch off their electricity, but will also plant greenery and install LED street lamps.
