ASI suicide case: Family demands CBI inquiry
Jalandhar, March 10 His wife Jasbir Kaur even threatened that she along with her children would commit suicide if the accused were not arrested with in a week. ASI Jaswinder, a resident of Eama Mugalan, Hoshiarpur, was posted at police station, Goraya, Jalandhar. He committed suicide on March 1 at Kitna village, Hoshiarpur. A suicide note was found in his pocket in which he had alleged that he was being forced by SHO Sarwan Singh Bal and Head Constable Harjeet Singh, to collect ‘protection money’ from those involved in illegal trade of poppy husk of their area. The deceased’s wife Jasbir Kaur and his mother Rattan Kaur alleged that though a case for abetment to suicide under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered, the police authorities have not arrested the accused even after nine days of the incident. The case was registered at Mahilpur police station on March 2. Although we have lost the lone earning member of our family, nobody from the department or the investigating officer has bothered to visit our house to seek additional statement, they alleged. The family alleged that the intention of the police to shield the suspects was clear from the day Jaswinder committed suicide. As 8-10 photocopies of suicide note were recovered from his pockets, the cops, present at the crime scene, forced the family to hand over all the copies to them despite our pleas to leave one copy for us, alleged the deceased’s brother Santokh Singh. “Shockingly, instead of consoling us on our great loss, certain police officers of our area are pressuring us to reach a compromise with the accused in lieu of money,” he alleged. The family also alleged that the senior officers were protecting the accused since Bal has served with Hoshiarpur SSP Rakesh Aggarwal at Kapurthala and Nawanshahr districts and is said to enjoy the latter’s confidence. However, terming the allegations baseless, Aggarwal said it was just a coincidence that Bal has served under him. “If the department had ulterior motives, the FIR would not have been registered just a day after the death,” he claimed. |
