Haridwar remembers Bapuji
Haridwar: In Haridwar, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi was remembered on his death anniversary with various commemorative functions being held. Irrespective of party affiliations, apart from political parties, social organisations, activists, schools, colleges, educational institutions and common people took part to pay tributes to the legendary person.
While on Bapu’s death anniversary, a nationwide anti-corruption drive was started in Roshanabad, a meeting was held at the Subash Ghat-situated Congress city office where party leaders took part in a yagna. Speaking at the occasion, City Congress chief OP Chauhan pointed on the vital role of Mahatma Gandhi in shaping the Indian independence struggle to its culmination and that too with non-violence, satyagraha and non-cooperation as its three tools. “His contribution is known worldwide as he also waged war against racism. People from around the world took inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi to chalk out social and national movements in their countries,” remarked Chauhan. Gandhi Vadi Ekta Manch activists carried out a peace march saluting the great leader. Historians at Gurukul Kangri University pointed on Gandhiji’s visit to the pilgrim city during the Maha Kumbh in the early part of last century when he visited the city as well as the university. Baba Ramdev’s
followers take out rally
On the 64th death anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi today, Haridwar began a drive to make a strong India by urging people to fight against the social evil of corruption, and by taking the mantle of yoga in their hand to make for a free-fair-healthy India. A similar rally was also taken out in Dehradun on the occasion by followers of yoga guru Ramdev. Accompanied by hundreds of renowned saints, Bharat Swabhiman Trust activists and people from varied sections of the society, the rally saw a definite resentment to the current sorry state of affairs the country is witnessing. Be it corruption, scandals, scams involving politicians both in power and in the Opposition, bureaucrats, police, Army and even judiciary, the movement tried to bring concerned citizens on one platform to fight against the evils that have crept into our democratic setup. Addressing the gathering, Swami Ramdev’s protégé Acharya Balakrishan spoke of a revolution which was peaceful, but created feelings of nationalism, socialism, secularism and health, making the nation prosper culturally and morally worldwide. Taking a strong dig at politicians, industrialists, bureaucrats and others who have foreign bank accounts, Balakrishan said the need of the hour was to bring back the money put in Swiss banks. It was black money taken from India and belonged to people here. Later a memorandum was also submitted to District Magistrate, Haridwar, R Meenakshi Sundaram at the district headquarters in
Roshanabad. |

Max India hospital to be operational early next year: Analjit Singh
Dehradun, January 30 He said Dehradun was picked up because it’s proximity to Delhi. “Though we have spread our wings as far as Ladakh, it is a good idea to work in our backyard. Besides, people of the state will benefit immensely from this facility. We might even think of converting it into a medical college, perhaps later. Under government norms, medical colleges can be set up only within a functioning hospital,” he said. He was speaking today with The Tribune while on a visit to Raphael Home. “Healthcare, insurance, education and hospitality are the four areas that I am interested in and want to be in,” Singh said. “Max Healthcare has been awarded land by the Punjab Government to build two hospitals in Bathinda and Mohali with 300 beds each. These hospitals are expected to be functional by next year. In all, the company plans to add around 1,000 beds in its hospitals in the next two years from the existing capacity of 800 beds,” he said. Professing deep gratitude, Singh said he felt humbled and honoured for being conferred the Padma Shri award by the Indian Government. “I would not like to say more, except that it is indeed a humbling experience,” he added. Happy with the way things were shaping in the country, Singh said the Indian society was slowly learning how to behave and be responsible. “We have entered a robust phase. Suddenly people are taking note of things and demanding accountability. These are pains of growing up and one should not feel disillusioned as acts of corruption do not go unreported or unnoticed. They are suddenly being ‘escalated’ and it is a sign of progress,” pointed out Analjit Singh. |
