Bathinda
33 LPG cylinders seized during raids
:On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, the staff of the Food and Supplies Department here today raided various shops, dhabas, hotels etc to check the misuse of domestic LPG supply.District Food and Supply Controller, Bathinda, said in a press note that the checking staff impounded 33 LPG cylinders on the spot during raids. He added that the impounded cylinders had been deposited with the IOC.

GHTP chosen for National Energy Conservation Award this year: The Guru Hargobind Thermal Power Plant at Lehra Mohabbat in Bathinda district has got the National Energy Conservation Award -2010 at the all-India level . The 920-MW GHTP got the first position amongst the thermal power plants across the country. The awards were announced today by the Union Ministry of Power. It will be presented to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) on December 14, the Energy Conservation Day, at New Delhi.

Additional bench set up
:An additional bench of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has been set up in Jalandhar to handle the pending cases. The forum will be presided over by retired judge Surinder Mohan, president of Kapurthala forum, and Rajes Bhagat, a member of the Ludhiana forum. The forum has been handed over 200 cases. 

Woman kills self: A resident of Mohalla Gobindgarh reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance today. The police said Sonia Sharma was admitted to the local Civil Hospital in a critical condition. But she could  not be saved. Doctors said she died of poisoning.

Appointed: Keeping in view the panchayat elections at Khuda Alisher village, the Chandigarh administration has appointed assistant estate officer Hargunjit Kaur as electoral registration officer. According to a press note, Jeet Singh, assistant controller (finance and accounts), Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, has been appointed assistant returning officer.

4 of family injured in attack
: Four of a family in Bhuna were injured last night when attacked by kin of a woman their son had eloped with on March 3 this year. Vinod Kumari, a married woman, had eloped with Beg Raj.The couple were found in Samana, Punjab, on December 5. The family of the girl had lodged an FIR against Beg Raj. Vinod Kumari told the magistrate that she had willingly gone away with Beg Raj.

Blood camp on Sonia’s birthday
: The district unit of the Congress here celebrated the 64th birthday of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi by donating 64 units of blood at a camp organised in Congress Bhawan. Malkiat Singh Khosa, district president of the Congress, inaugurated the camp. District Mahila Congress president Shilpa Verma and several other party leaders were present on this occasion. 

Accident: Karminder Kaur (25) was killed and her  husband Ajaib Singh seriously injured when their car hit a tree near Maujukhera village on the national highway this afternoon.

Missing youth’s body found
: The police has recovered the body of a youth, who had reportedly gone missing about a month ago. The police here said the body of Aijaz Ahmad Guroo (17), bearing marks of violence, was recovered from Nullah Sindh, near the Athkhuru forests, in Ganderbal district. 

Three killed in road accidents: Three persons were killed and five injured in road accidents in the Kashmir valley since Wednesday. Javid Ahmad Malik died when his motorcycle was hit by a CRPF vehicle at Barzalla Baghat here. In other accident, Mohammad Maqbool Wani died when he was hit by a Tata Mobile in the Char-i-Sharief area of Budgam district. Shahnaz Ahmad Bhat was killed when the load-carrier in which he was travelling overturned in the Kangan area of Ganderbal district. 

Repairs on vandalised Clock Tower begin: Three months after Clock Tower at Lal Chowk here was vandalised, the state authorities on Wednesday began repair and restoration work on it. Thousands had gathered at Clock Tower on September 11 for a rally, called by moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and a section of the crowd climbed atop the building to hoist green flags. In the process, the tower was vandalised.
