Councillors in the team for a one-day cricket match between the Mayor XI and the Commissioner XI have each been given sportswear of a leading international brand worth Rs 4,150 each. However, class IV employees of the MC are struggling for the last five years to get an annual allowance of Rs 356 for their uniforms. MC records show an expenditure of Rs 1 lakh on sportswear of 28 players of two teams and two umpires.

UT replies to MHA queries on IT park land

After of delay of four days, the UT administration today sent a detailed reply to the ministry of home affairs’ letter pertaining to land acquisition and utilization in phases I and II of the Information Technology Park and efforts to acquire land for phase III.

The UT Financial Commissioner today slapped a penalty of Rs 25,000 on Hotel Taj after it filed an appeal against the order of suspension of its bar licence for 10 days recently.

Gang of thieves busted, 3 held
Chandigarh, December 3
The police today claimed to have busted a major gang of thieves with the arrest of three of its members, later identified as Guru Dutt, Vishal and Pawan. Following a tipoff on Thursday, a joint PCR and operation cell team led by subinspectors Surinder Kumar and Rajdeep Singh laid a ‘naka’ (barrier) near the Sector 26 waterworks and nabbed the three suspects.

Shopkeepers held for selling duplicate thinner

The police today arrested two shopkeepers for selling duplicate thinner and seized 300 litre thinner from their possession. The accused have been identified as Ved Parkash, Aggarwal hardware shop, Baltana, and Hans Raj, Jindal hardware shop, Baltana.

In a daring incident of snatching, two car-borne women kidnapped another woman, who was waiting for an auto-rickshaw to go home in Sector 70.
The victim Amrit Kaur was returning from Sohana Gurdwara when a Swift car stopped near her and asked her for a lift.

2 held in Kalka robbery case

The police achieved a major success by arresting two robbers, who had burgled Rana Hospital Kalka on the National Highway-22.
According to police, the CIA team of the district police headed by Inspector Karanveer had been successful in arresting the two from Meerut and Delhi.

According to sources, the OBI Sports Academy had told Megpie Sports Pvt Ltd (MSPL) that they were interested to play practice matches in India especially in Chandigarh or its satellite towns in view of the Junior Cricket League matches to be held in 2012.
