Missing man found murdered
Nawanshahr, November 26 The clothes were recovered by the police and during investigation it was found that the clothes belonged to Dalbir Singh of Phanweran village. The police took the help of the dog squad and succeeded in recovering the body of Dalbir Singh from a nearby sugarcane field. He was murdered with sharp-edged weapons.The police has registered a case. 4 booked for fraud
Nawanshahr: On the basis of a complaint filed by Sukhdev Singh of Urapar village, the police has registered a case against Dulla Singh and Varinder Kaur of Margana village, Tarn Taran, Manjit Kaur and Amanpreet of Garhpadhana village, SBS Nagar, under Sections 406, 420, 468 and 120 B of the IPC for allegedly committing a fraud with him on the pretext of sending him abroad. In his complaint, Sukhdev Singh had stated that he came into contact with Amanpreet of Garhpadhana village at the village gurdwara. After a few meetings, she took him to her maternal aunt and uncle Varinder Kaur and Dulla Singh. They told him that Amanpreet would soon settle abroad and he could also settle abroad on marriage basis. They demanded Rs 20 lakh for the purpose. The drama of marriage was enacted. On January 29, Amanpreet went to the UK and she kept on calling him from there and assuring him that the papers were being readied for him, said Sukhdev, adding that as per the instructions of Amanpreet, he kept on giving the desired money to her uncle and aunt in Tarn Taran. He paid Rs 18.40 lakh, but he was neither sent to the UK, nor his money was returned. Even, when accompanied by some prominent persons he went to their house in Tarn Taran district, they plainly refused to return the money or send him abroad, he alleged. 22-year-old girl attacked, injured
Phagwara: Harpreet Kaur (22) was attacked and wounded with iron rod by a chain snatcher in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar here this afternoon. The girl was admitted in the Civil Hospital with multiple injuries, but her condition was stated to be stable, said Senior Medical Officer Dr Rajiv Gupta. SHO (City) Amrik Singh Chahal said a few neighbourers alleged that the accused was a chain snatcher and entered the house for snatching. He attacked the girl when she resisted. DSP Sandeep Sharma sid the police was investigating the matter to bring the truth to light as accused Raj Kumar of Raipur Araian village under Phillaur police station was a close relative of a family residing in the same mohalla. He said the police was awaiting the statement of the injured girl. Man arrested with fake currency of 50,000 Jalandhar, November 26 During search the police seized fake currency of Rs 50,000 (15 notes of Rs 1000 and 70 notes of Rs 500 denominations) from his possession. Sandhu said that during questioning the man admitted to had been working for Asha Rani, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, for the past over two months. Asha had been smuggling fake currency from the Nepal border and circulating in this region. A case under sections 489-A, B, C and 420 of the IPC has been registered against Sukhwinder Singh by the police. The police has also launched a hunt for Asha Rani and her suspected accomplices. |

Phillaur, November 26 Addressing a function organised at Punjab Police Academy here after taking the salute at the passing-out parade of 464 women constables, the police chief said the state police was in the process of obtaining the best technology available in the world for “upgrading our communication, transport, weaponry and intelligence network to meet any eventuality”. He said the present strategies and methodologies for crime control were being analysed, evaluated and reconditioned with focus on community policing and service delivery. He disclosed that to enhance motivation and build morale, new patterns of awards and medals had been introduced. Gill emphasised that the parents and society should nurture the youngsters with good moral values to make them responsible citizens. He said that the successful training of these highly talented girls would add a golden chapter in the history of the Punjab police. He said the Police Department was going to recruit 500 women constables. Earlier, Punjab Police Academy Director Rohit Choudhary said a well-designed training programme was planned to prepare the women constables for the emerging challenges before the police force. Apart from traditional inputs concerning policing, modern crimes, community policing, dealing with media, healthy police public relations and disaster management were included in the training programme. DIG-cum-Joint Director of the academy M.F. Farooqui said a total number of 464 women constables passed out. L/R Sandeep Kaur, 388/LDH and L/R Jaspreet Kaur, 347/RPR, were adjudged first and second, respectively, while L/R Rupinder Kaur, 790/FDK, was declared the best shooter. A cultural programme and a mass PT show by the trainees were performed after the passing-out parade. |

Mechanical work at MGNREGA sites
Jalandhar, November 26 The protesters forced the officials to return where they had pressed an earth mover in service and other machinery for digging of a pond. The protesters alleged that the administration had suspended all the works under the scheme, thus rendering thousands of card-holders jobless. Pendu Mazdoor Union, Punjab, president Tarsem Peter alleged that the administration had been using machinery at MGNREGA work sites against the rules. |

Ban on heavy traffic relaxed
Jalandhar, November 26 The traffic authorities have decided to allow the movement of heavy traffic (especially of heavy loaded trucks) through the city between 11 am to 2 pm. However, the traffic will remain suspended between 8 am to 8 pm on some highly congested routes like Patel Chowk to Nakoder Chowk en route Mai Heeran Gate, Adda Tanda, Adda Hoshiarpur, Bhagat Singh Chowk, PNB Chowk and Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk. Similarly, heavy traffic will not be allowed from PNB Chowk to Patel Chowk via Jail Chowk from 8 am to 8 pm. “After studying the patterns of flow of vehicular traffic in the city, it has been found that the city roads witness heavy volume of traffic from 8 am to 11 am and then from 2 pm to 8 pm. As 12 hour regular ban during daytime influence the smooth running of commercial and administrative activities, it has been decided to allow the heavy traffic into the city, except inner areas, during off-peak hours, from 11 am to 2 pm,” said Lakhwinder Pal Singh, ADCP, Traffic. |

Labourers at jail construction site stop work
Kapurthala, November 26 Irate labourers, including Ram Sagar, Vijay Chauhan and Manoj, expressed their inability to carry on the construction work as in the absence of money they had not kerosene enough to light their lamps and meet sundry expenses. Meanwhile, when contacted, K.M. Shukla, senior deputy general manager of Omaxe Limited, the construction company that has been awarded the project for Rs 1,000 crore, said the problem arose as one of the company’s directors was out of station and could not sign the salary cheques in time. He said that a payment worth Rs 25 to 30 lakh would be made to the workers tomorrow. He, however, disclosed that there were nearly 80 contractors who had been delaying payments to the workers. He claimed the company had made advance payment to the contractors for the labour. He disclosed that presently nearly 1,300 labourers were engaged in the construction work. Over 700 workers were at the project site today. While cash payment was made to certain today, the rest would be paid tomorrow. |
