Police captures 2 inmates of juvenile home

The district police today succeeded in arresting two juvenile delinquents, who along with four others, fled from the local Bal Sudhar Ghar (juvenile home) yesterday, within 20 hours of their fleeing.

Jagir Singh Sandhu, a Road Safety Missionary, accompanied by his team members, delivered special lectures to make the police officials, school teachers, bus drivers, conductors among others aware about the various road safety measures to avert mishaps and saving precious lives.

800 pass out from PPA

Students worried as PCS, UGC exam dates coincide
Jalandhar, November 19
The candidates preparing for both PCS and UGC examination are a worried lot as they claim that the dates of both the papers coincide. The candidates said the date of PCS executive pre-examination and UGC science group JRF exam had been fixed for the same date, December 19.

3 killed in mishaps
Phillaur, November 19
Three persons were killed and one sustained serious injuries in different mishaps around Phillaur during the last 24 hours.

Suvidha Centres to be set up under CPRCs

The district police has taken a new innovative initiative by setting up Suvidha Centres at the sub division and police station levels, to provide transparent and hassle-free delivery of various public utility services, including police clearance certificate, passport verification, visa extension, motor vehicle inquiry, arms license, FIR, RTI etc.

Police captures 2 inmates of juvenile home
Four others still absconding

Hoshiarpur, November 19
The district police today succeeded in arresting two juvenile delinquents, who along with four others, fled from the local Bal Sudhar Ghar (juvenile home) yesterday, within 20 hours of their fleeing.

Addressing mediapersons here this afternoon, SP (D) Randhir Singh Uppal said a special naka was set up at Chack Sadhu, 12 kms from here, since yesterday after fleeing of six juvenile delinquents from the Bal Sudhar Ghar.

At 10.30 am today, the policemen noticed two youths coming on foot from Una side. As soon as they saw the police party, the boys took a u-turn and ran towards the Una side.

The police party which had photographs of all the escaped juvenile delinquents after a brief chase caught them.

They were identified as Tarsem Lal (18), son of Tara Singh of Umarpur (Batala), and Balraj Singh (16), son of Jagir Singh of Nathuana, Jandiala Guru. During their search, the police seized one dagger from Balraj Singh.

Their preliminary interrogation revealed that the juvenile delinquents, led by Shamir Ahmed Dar (16), son of Abdul Rasid Dar of Gardibag Pulbama (Jammu and Kashmir), hatched the plan to flee from the Bal Sudhar Ghar about a week ago.

Yesterday, as they found favourable conditions, they escaped in two groups. Sohal Huk (16), son of Jalil Huk of Gobindpur, district Dinaspur, Bangladesh, Rasid Ali (16), son of Habib Ahmed of Faridkot in Rai Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Shamir Ahmed Dar and Rajesh Kumar, son of Ruldu Ram of Sardarpur (Pathankot) in one group came out first from the Bal Sudhar Ghar after breaking the iron bars of the grille. After 7 minutes of their escaping Tarsem Lal and Balraj Singh also came out from the ghar and fled.

Randhir Singh Uppal said Balraj Singh’s father Jagir Singh came to the Bal Sudhar Ghar at 12 noon yesterday. He gave some money to his son. After escaping, Tarsem Singh and Balraj Singh went to the dargah of Peer Nigaha near Una in Himachal Pradesh to pay their obeisance. Thereafter, Balraj Singh purchased a dagger for committing a robbery. Due to their apprehension of checking of bus passengers by the police, both were coming on foot.

All the escaped delinquents were undertrials in various cases of crime, including murder and kidnapping.

Following the recovery of a dagger from them, a separate FIR No 168 under sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act had been registered in the Sadar police station today.

Efforts were being done to nab the remaining juvenile delinquents.

Two ambulances but no driver in Phagwara Civil Hospital

The health department of Punjab has withdrawn its employees, including doctors and paramedical staff, from their respective duties on deputation.

This was alleged by the Medical Lab Technician Association’s state press secretary Jhirmal Singh Bhinder, while addressing a protest rally at the local civil hospital here today.

He alleged that the working of government hospitals is being badly affected due to these dictatorial instructions of the state government.

Giving an example, he said at the Phagwara civil hospital, which is facilitated with two ambulances, no driver is being provided and patients are suffering a lot as both ambulances lie in the hospital.

He further alleged that only one technician is works in a hundred-bed hospital in Phagwara due to these instructions.

Bhinder urged the state government to fill all the vacancies permanently, if it wanted to withdraw all staff on deputation. Meanwhile, senior medical officer Dr Rajiv Gupta told The Tribune here today that he had made alternative arrangements for a driver, with the permission of the civil surgeon, Kapurthala.

Road safety 
Police holds special refresher course

With a view to create awareness on road safety, the police organised a three-day special refresher course at K.C. Engineering College here, which concluded on Friday. Jagir Singh Sandhu, a Road Safety Missionary, accompanied by his team members, delivered special lectures to make the police officials, school teachers, bus drivers, conductors among others aware about the various road safety measures to avert mishaps and saving precious lives.

As many as 66 police officials, 87 school teachers, 13 drivers of Punjab Roadways, 20 drivers of school buses, 25 private drivers, motor vehicle inspector, among others attended the refresher course.

SSP Narinder Bhargav, SP(operation) Dharam Singh Uppal also delivered lectures and exhorted the police officials, teachers and drivers not only to follow the road safety measures but also to spread awareness among masses.

800 pass out from PPA

The passing out parade of the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur, was held today, in which about 800 trainees of various promotional courses passed out from the academy.

Academy director Rohit Chodhary addressed trainees. In his address, he said policing, in the modern world, has changed drastically and it has generated a number of issues and challenges before us. He said the police have to assume a diversified role in such complex conditions.

He stressed on the need to be committed to meet future challenges with dedication and professional commitment.

He also congratulated the passing out trainees and wished them success in all walks of life. Academy joint director MF Farooqui said a number of innovative changes have been incorporated in the training schedule. He said the police is focusing on behavioural changes, coupled with overall preparedness of the force and these steps will go a long way to improve the content and quality of police training in the state.

Students worried as PCS, UGC exam dates coincide

The candidates preparing for both PCS and UGC examination are a worried lot as they claim that the dates of both the papers coincide. The candidates said the date of PCS executive pre-examination and UGC science group JRF exam had been fixed for the same date, December 19.

“We are really tense for we are not sure whether we will be able to appear for both the papers,” they said, demanding a change of date in either exam.

Kalia announces Rs 10 cr for devp works

Punjab Minister for Local Bodies, Industry and Commerce Manoranjan Kalia today announced that Rs 10 crore would be spent on the development works including sewerage for the beautification of the town. He was addressing a function after laying the foundation stone of an auditorium on Sailli road.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalia focused on the “unprecedented” development works, undertaken by the SAD-BJP government during the past four years, with greater emphasis on infrastructure development in the all over the state.

Accompanied by Transport Minister Master Mohan Lal and Punjab BJP chief Ashwani Sharma, the minister added that over Rs 3.5 crore would be spent on the construction of the auditorium with a capacity of six hundred persons on seven-kanal land provided by the local Improvement Trust.

He assured that auditorium would be completed within 10 months.

Master Mohan Lal urged the Kalia to take up the demand for construct a flyover from Abrol Nagar to Khanpur road to ease the problems of the residents to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Later he attended a lucky draw function organised by Pathankot Improvement Trust, to allot MIG residential flats.

As many as 60 persons were allotted flats through lucky draw system, said Mr. Anil Vasudeva, Chairman of the Pathankot Improvement Trust.

3 killed in mishaps

Phillaur, November 19
Three persons were killed and one sustained serious injuries in different mishaps around Phillaur during the last 24 hours.

An old villager Gurmit Ram (55) and his wife Saroj Devi (52) of nearby Dhaleta village reportedly committed suicide by jumping in front of the Jamu-bound Malwa Express near the Dosanjh Khurad railway crossing between Phillaur and Goraya.

Deep mental stress was said to be the cause of suicide, the railway police said. The dead bodies of the couple were sent to the Phillaur civil hospital for post-mortem examination.

In the second mishap, a woman pillion rider was killed on the spot while a motorcyclist youth sustained critical injuries when the motor cycle, on which they were traveling, was hit by a speeding truck near Apra village in the Phillaur sub division.

Pathankot: One motorcyclist was killed while two others sustained injuries in a road accident near Damtal, about 11 kms from here, on Pathankot-Jalandhar road yesterday. According to police, Makhandin Ali of Bharoli Kalan was going to Mandli village with his two other friends on a motorcycle. Negotiating a curve, Ali lost control over the motorcycle and rammed it into a bus (HP-38-A-5024). Ali died on the spot while two others got injuries who were admitted to a private hospital.

Suvidha Centres to be set up under CPRCs

The district police has taken a new innovative initiative by setting up Suvidha Centres at the sub division and police station levels, to provide transparent and hassle-free delivery of various public utility services, including police clearance certificate, passport verification, visa extension, motor vehicle inquiry, arms license, FIR, RTI etc. 

Dr Narinder Bhargav, SSP, while talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, said Suvidha Centres would be set up under the Community Police Resource Centres (CPRC) and would be made operational in March 2011.
