Jalandhar, November 23
The patients reporting at the ESI Hospital with eye, ear, nose and throat ailments have to return without getting any prescription or treatment as there has been no permanent eye and ENT specialists posted in the hospital for the past few months.

Besides eye and ENT, another crucial post of Medical Specialist has also been lying vacant for months.

The overall service scenario at the hospital is very bad as the patient load in these specialisations comprises the major chunk of the patient volume.

As of now, specialists, who are posted at some other hospitals and dispensaries, are providing their services, but only for one or two days a week. Owing to the temporary nature of services, not only the routine check up, but also the surgical interventions were hit hard in the hospital.

Asked in this regard, Dr H.S. Batra, Medical Superintendent, ESI Hospital, said proposals for the enrolment of specialists on contract basis had been already forwarded to the Directorate, ESI, Chandigarh.

“It is only in their ambit to give green signal in this regard. We are anticipating that the authorities would give permission to employ the required doctors just in a few days,” said Dr Batra.

“However, we are doing our level best to provide the services and made it possible to provide the services, though one or two days a week,” he added.

‘3 idiots’ song brought sunshine in my life: Suraj Jagan
Deepkamal Kaur
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, November 23
Currently a front-runner in rock music in the country, vocalist Suraj Jagan says that the tag came quite late in his life but he was actually enjoying basking in the glory. The singer says, “I was just a small playback singer who was hardly popular till the movie ‘3 idiots’ came my way.

It was the ‘Give me some sunshine’ in this movie that brought all this sunshine in my life, changing everything overnight. All of a sudden I was giving 35 interviews a day and soon ‘The New Musical Sensation (male)’ Stardust award came my way.”

Suraj was here to perform at the Gyan Manthan, a technofest at Lovely Professional University. Prior to his performance, he interacted with mediapersons in Jalandhar.

“The track which has given me life’s biggest hit is actually a track that denotes my life, thoughts and perception. I strongly believe that one should have the freedom to do whatever he wants to do in life. It is only the person himself who knows his abilities, interests and passion and every youth should be allowed to live his life to the fullest without any unnecessary pressures from parents, siblings, relatives or friends. Everyone was just telling me that I was ruining my life since I had taken to rock music in 1988 at the time when I was in college doing B.Com. But they have all seen the result now,” he shrugged.

Recalling his recording experiences of the song which is almost an anthem for the youth, the singer said, “Had it not been Shantanu Moitre, music director of ‘3 Idiots’, I would not have got the opportunity. He told me that he had specially got the song composed for him, a promise that he had made after making of an advertisement jingle two years ago.”

Suraj has done popular jingle “You and I” for Hutch, “Happy to help” for Vodafone and a few others for Yamaha, Reliance, BSNL and HDFC. Post “3 Idiots”, he has done “I am dog gone crazy” in “Action Replayy”, “Dil khol ke lets rock” for “We are a family” and “Rang de” for “My name is Khan”. He has even played a role in movie “Rock On”. His forthcoming work will be seen in the movie “Patiala House”.

LIC official drags V-Mart to consumer forum
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, November 23
Shopping mall V-Mart is in the dock for selling a Chavanprash container with seal broken and some of the material extracted out of it last week. A high-profile customer, who made the purchase, has lodged a complaint with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum that the store employees had neither given him the free honey bottle with the container nor reduced the price money in lieu of it. The forum has admitted the complaint and issued a notice for November 26.

In his complaint, Senior Divisional Manager, LIC, Girish Kumar, said he visited the store on November 17 evening and purchased 25 different items of grocery, eatables and daily need vide a computerised invoice No 131/007573 for a total value of Rs 1,650. He said after purchasing goods he went back to his house, which is situated nearby in the building of Jeevan Parkash of the LIC at the back of the office premises.

He said after sorting out the purchased goods, he removed the lid of Himani Sona Chandi Chavanprash plastic jar of 500 gm and found that the internal seal had been broken and some one had taken out some of the material from the jar.

“It was a shocking incident for me. The modus operandi in breaking internal seal of a jar and extracting the material from it in a clandestine manner is unprofessional and amounts to duping customers. Further the possibility of putting some contaminated or injurious substance in the broken-sealed jar could not be ruled out,” he claimed.

The complainant said he immediately rushed back to the store, but to no avail. “The officials flatly said the jar was not sold by them to the complainant. A request to compare the batch number from their other stocks on the shelf and with the computerised bill was also refused.”

Attaching all proofs, he said Himani Chavanprash offered free Zandu honey (40 gm) worth Rs 18 with it, which was neither given to the complainant nor the price thereof was deducted from the computerised bill items. He called for a refund and compensation from the store.
