Nationwide I-T raids on CWG suspects
Sleuths swoop down on 60 premises of Games’ contractors
New Delhi, October 28
As part of its probe into alleged financial irregularities in the conduct of the Commonwealth Games, the Income Tax department sleuths today swooped down on close to 60 premises across the country — mainly of the contractors involved in the sporting extravaganza. Official sources said over 300 officials were part of the nationwide raids, conducted in the National Capital Region, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jharkhand.

‘SAD-BJP to blame for fiscal mess’

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee new president Capt Amarinder Singh has blamed the SAD-BJP regime in the state for the financial mess, saying “there was something wrong with the system… the debt has risen from Rs 48,000 crore to Rs 72,000 crore in three years and is still rising”.

Pak-American arrested for terror plot
Federal agents have arrested a Pakistani American who US officials say was plotting terrorist attacks on Washington’s metro transit system. Farooque Ahmed (34) of Ashburn, Virginia, was arrested on Wednesday for attempting to assist others, whom he believed to be members of Al-Qaida, in planning multiple bombings at Metrorail stations in the Washington DC area.

Obama’s India itinerary finalised
US President Barack Obama's itinerary during his three-day trip to India has been realesed by the White House. The US President and first lady Michelle Obama will arrive in Mumbai on November 6. In a symbolic gesture, Obama will sign the Taj Hotel where terrorists struck and where he will be staying, and later meet with those affected by the attacks.

In what can be termed a “Divali bonanza” for the inter-state body corporate long reeling under severe cash crunch, the Law Ministry has said the varsity is a central educational institution under the provisions of the Central Educational Institutions Act, 2006 and can be funded by the Centre -- a demand PU Chandigarh has long been making.
