Obama’s India itinerary finalised
Ashish Kumar Sen in Washington

US President Barack Obama's itinerary during his three-day trip to India has been realesed by the White House. The US President and first lady Michelle Obama will arrive in Mumbai on November 6. In a symbolic gesture, Obama will sign the Taj Hotel where terrorists struck and where he will be staying, and later meet with those affected by the attacks.

“The Taj, where the president is staying, was, of course, a centerpiece of those attacks in Mumbai. So the president wanted to take the time to pay his respects to the victims who lost their lives and to sign the guest book there, but also to make some brief remarks to an assembled group of people who are connected to those attacks,” Rhodes said.

Obama, who has publicly referred to his admiration for Mahatma Gandhi, will visit the Gandhi museum. He will later attend a business summit hosted by the US-India Business Council and a CEOs roundtable.

On November 7, the Obamas will visit a school in Mumbai to celebrate Divali and later will attend a town hall meeting with university students.

In New Delhi, the Obamas’ itinerary includes a dinner with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife, Gursharan Kaur, an official welcome ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, a bilateral meeting with Singh, a wreath laying ceremony at Raj Ghat and a cultural stop, a trip to Humayun’s Tomb.

The Obamas’ daughters, Sasha and Malia, will not be travelling to India as they are not able to get away from school.
