NSS camp for villagers: NSS unit of the SUS College of Research and Technology organised an awareness camp against drug abuse and female foeticide at Tangori village.NSS volunteers started the campaign with a procession carrying educative placards and held a rally at the village with a view to motivate residents to fight against social evils like drug abuse, dowry and female
foeticide. Inspirational lectures were delivered by Dr HS Rose and NSS volunteers. They tried to educate village residents about ill-effects of intoxicants and evils of female
foeticide.

Israeli man injured: An Israeli resident was seriously injured in a road accident near here on Tuesday. Israeli resident Ohad was seriously injured on the Ambala -Chandigarh National Highway when his motorcycle was hit by an unidentified car from behind. Ohad was on a motorcycle when an unidentified car hit him near Jawaharpur village. Car driver, however, fled and injured Ohad was admitted to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

‘Robot design’ workshop: As many as 75 students belonging to different colleges participated in a three-day “robot design” workshop organised by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of Engineering and Technology. As per a press note issued here on Tuesday, the participants, who were divided into five groups, were tasked to design their individual robots and later given certificates. The workshop was organised in association with the Indian Society of Technical Education.

Guest lecture: A guest lecture on “Capital market - Structure, reforms and opportunities” was organised at GNIMT today for the final year students of MBA. The training and placement cell and Indian Society organised the lecture for technical education. Gursaran Singh Bajaj, vice-president, and zonal head, Religare Securities, expressed his views on capital markets instruments. He further discussed history of capital markets, its reforms, recent trends in capital market and impact of recession on GDP. He advised students to pursue certified courses to enhance their employability scope. Hike in dry cleaning prices Santok Singh Ahluwalia, president of Punjab Dry Cleaners and Dyers Association, has told due to rise in prices of petrol and petroleum products, the association has decided to raise the dry cleaning charges by 10 per cent and new rate list will be prepared accordingly after the meeting. He appealed to the people for their cooperation.

Army driver injured: The driver of an Army Gypsy sustained injuries as the vehicle was reportedly hit by 4SHB passenger train that had left Sriganganagar for Bathinda at 3.30 pm. Assistant station superintendent DK Tyagi informed that the Gypsy got trapped while passing through the unmanned level crossing C-85 near Fatuhi rural railway station.
