Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 22
The sacked IPL Commissioner, Lalit Modi has failed to respond to the show cause notice issued to him by the Ministry of External Affairs, regarding revoking of his passport. In case, he fails to respond to the notice by the end of this month, he stands to lose his passport.

Talking to mediapersons here today, foreign secretary, Nirupama Rao, said that a show-cause notice was issued to Modi on October 13, after a complaint was received from the Enforcement Directorate, seeking that his passport be revoked in public interest and in order to aid investigations against him for his various acts of ommission and commission.

“The passport was issued to Modi by the Regional Passport Office, Mumbai in July 2008. We issued him a show cause notice on October 13. The ED again provided us with an alternate address on October 15, and another show cause notice was issued to him, asking why action should not be initiated against him under the Passport Act. He has been given a 15-day notice. So far, we have not received any reply from him, and in case he does not reply by the end of this month, action will be initiated against him,” said Rao.

It is believed that Modi, at present, is in London, and is alleged to be working on getting an Icelandic passport.
