As many as 17 flights, seven of them commercial and the remaining by the IAF, landed at Leh on Sunday, flying out the stranded and bringing in equipment to restore roads, bridges, buildings and communication.

Town turns into a refugee camp

This picturesque Himalayan town popular with tourists has turned into a ghost town and is yet to recover from the ‘dance of death’ unleashed by Mother Nature three days ago. It is now a vast refugee camp for the homeless. The full extent of the disaster is still unfolding and one has to come here to realise the terrible tragedy that has overtaken the people.

Sinking vessel spills oil along Mumbai coast

Authorities are working overtime to contain the oil spill caused due to a collision between two cargo ships off the Mumbai coast. According to officials of the Coast Guard and the Navy, the Panamian-registered MSC Chitra which collided with MV Khalija III, also flying the Panama flag, was in danger of sinking.

80% Indian women take illegal route to Gulf

As much as 80 per cent women migrating from India to Middle-East countries take the illegal route, a study has revealed. What is more worrying is the consistent rise in the number of woman migrants who are left to battle with isolation, confinement and sexual harassment in their new destination of dreams.

RTI applicable to Union govt offices in J&K: HC

In an important judgement, the Delhi High Court has ruled that the Right to Information (RTI) act is fully applicable to central government organisations located in J&K. Holding the stance of the Union of India in withholding information pertaining to the death of an Army captain posted in J&K from his family on the grounds that the RTI Act was not applicable in the state as “erroneous” and has imposed costs on the government.
