With fresh breaches in the Ghaggar, the Tangri and the SYL canal, the flood situation in Ambala, Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts in Haryana remains grave.

The trail of ongoing series of stone-pelting incidents in Jammu and Kashmir is being traced to persons based in Pakistan and also hardline instigators based here, intercepts by intelligence agencies have indicated. Jawan’s body found after 48 years
Kangra, July 8
Karam Chand Katoch, a jawan representing the Dogra Regiment during the Chinese aggression of 1962, who was claimed to be missing, had attained martyrdom at the China’s border in Arunachal Pradesh. His body remained dumped for 48 years under the glaciers of the area and was recovered a few days back.

 

Flight of fancy: Solar plane takes off
Payerne (Switzerland), July 8
A giant glider-like aircraft has completed the first night flight propelled only by solar energy, organisers said on Thursday. Solar Impulse, whose wingspan is the same as an Airbus A340, flew 26 hours and 9 minutes, powered only by solar energy stored during the day. It was also the longest and highest flight in the history of solar aviation, organisers said.
