On the persuasion of the Punjab government, Nirmla Academy, Mumbai, has agreed to open its C-Pyte centre at Bhatoli village in the Talwara block of this district, for creating job avenues for the unemployed youths of Kandi in the Indian Navy or the Merchant Navy.

Two youths electrocuted
Jalandhar, March 11
Two youths were electrocuted in the Model Town market here today. The tragic incident took place when they were making a bore with a tool in a newly constructed building and the tool touched the high-tension wire passing overhead. The electrocuted youths have been identified as Surendra Bhagat of Kalghidhar Colony in Garha and Mahanvir, alias Beera, of Thakur Colony in Khambra.

School Principal booked for raping teacher

Tarn Taran, March 11
Four persons, including three members of a private school management committee, have been booked in a rape case by the Goindwal Sahib police.

According to information here today, the rape was committed about four months back whereas the case was registered only last night.

The accused in the case have been identified as Kulwinder Singh, alias Vicky (27), the school Principal, Tehal Singh, his father and manager of the school, Sandeep Kaur, sister of Vicky, and Ramandeep Kaur, a teacher of the school.

The victim in her complaint alleged that the accused abducted her on November 11, 2009, from her native village Fatehbad, from where Ramandeep brought her on some pretext of school work.

Since her abduction till February 16, 2010, Kulwinder raped her for a number of times, alleged the victim.

In the medical report it has been revealed that the victim has a 12-week pregnancy.

The school, Sri Guru Anged Dev Study Circle, Goindwal Sahib, is being run by Tehal Singh and others in which the victim was working as a teacher.

The victim alleged that Kulwinder took her to different places and raped her. She alleged that Kulwinder clicked her photographs showing her to be married by threatening her.

Sukhdev Singh Brar, SSP, said a case under sections 363, 366, 376, 342, 420, 120B and 506 of the IPC was registered. He said raids had been conducted at certain hideouts of the accused to nab them.

Cong opposes ‘shifting’ of police station

The “shifting” of Verka police station to a community centre building, constructed by the block samiti in Verka block, today started a controversy with the District Youth Congress Committee (Rural) threatening to move the judiciary if the Police Department does not resist from “unlawful grabbing”.

Meant for public utility and elderly people, the building was constructed by the then Congress MLA at the cost of about Rs 45 lakh. But after the SAD-BJP government took over, the complex turned redundant. Varinder Kumar, Commissioner of the Police, however, denied any such move. He said it was the gram panchayat that proposed to the department to takeover the building to shift police station.

“However, as it belonged to community centre, I outrightly refused to take any such step. We are very comfortable with the existent complex,” he added.

Dr Shalinder Singh Shelly, president, District Youth Congress (Rural), said during the tenure of the previous government, steps were taken to collaborate with the Rotary Club or Red Cross Society for running the complex and providing necessary things like newspapers and books for the elderly people.

Police to take help of UK to nab accused

In the BJP leader murder case, the Phagwara police has said it would take help of the UK counterpart to track Harmesh Singh, alias Meshi, who is hiding in the UK and is wanted in the case.

According to Phagwara DSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, UK-based NRI Jatinder Kumar, alias Bobby, and Phagwara BJP leader Sudarshan Dhillon had an old enmity due to which Bobby along with Harmesh Singh decided to eliminate the leader. The conspiracy was hatched in the UK.

Meanwhile, showering praise on police officials, who helped arrest the six accused, Jalandhar Range DIG Sharad Satya Chauhan has said the names of officials would be recommended for awards.

The DIG, while talking from Hyderabad where he has gone for special training in a course in terrorism, gave credit to Nawanshahr SSP Rakesh Aggarwal, SSP Kapurthala, and police team headed by DSP Phagwara Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh.

DSP Khakh in turn said though every police teams worked very hard, SHO Mukandpur Inderjit Singh played an exemplary role to assist the Phagwara Police.

DSP Khakh disclosed that one more .315 bore revolver was recovered from Phagwara which was hidden by another accused Sukha.

He said according to preliminary police investigations another Canada-based NRI Ajay Joshi, alias Binda Pehalwan of Hadiabad, a sub-town of Phagwara, had also old enmity with Dhillon and joined hands with Bobby in this conspiracy.

After hatching conspiracy with Meshi, Bobby contacted Binda, a proclaimed offender in another case of 1998, in Canada. Binda came to India on December 10 last year and made contacts with Nawanshahr Resident Manjit Singh, who was brother of Meshi, who telephonically asked Manjit to help and made arrangements of all required goods including weapons. Manjit with the help of Goga arranged rented house, Scarpio Vehicle and weapons and cartridges to commit the crime.

Meanwhile, Bobby flew back from the UK on February 28 and later Sukha of Kartarpur and Manna of Kharar also joined them as Bobby assured both Sukha and Manna to send and settle them in the UK, said DSP Khakh.

Police stations in Hoshiarpur reorganised

Hoshiarpur, March 11
The Department of Home Affairs and Justice of the state government has re-organised all 14 police stations in the district and formed a new police station at Chabewal.

With the formation of the new Chabewal police station, the number of police stations in the district has increased to 15.

According to police sources here today, four villages of Garhdiwala police station have been transferred to the Hariana police station, one village of Mehtiana police station to Bulhowal police station, five villages of Bulhowal police station to Tanda police station, 27 villages of Hariana police station to two each in Garhshankar and Tanda, one in Sadar police station and 10 in Mehtiana.

Similarly, 17 villages of Dasuya police station to six in Garhdiwala and 11 in Tanda, 15 villages of Tanda to Dasuya, 38 of Garhshankar to Mahilpur, 77 of Sadar to 51 in Bulhowal, 13 in Hariana and 10 in Mehtiana, 44 of Mahilpur to Mehtiana, 61 of Hajipur to 29 in Dasuya, one in Mukerian and 30 in Talwara, nine of Talwara to Hajipur and 44 of Mukerian to 42 in Hajipur and two in Dasuya. As many as 112 villages of Sadar police station have been transferred to the newly formed police station of Chabewal.

Creating Job Avenues 
Centre to be set up

According to a press release by the District Public Relations Officer here today, a team led by the Special Principal Secretary of the Chief Minister KGS Cheema, Director Nirmla Academy, along with Deputy Commissioner Megh Raj, Chief Engineer of BBMB Kundan Lal and local government officers visited Bhatoli village and Shah Nehar barrage area yesterday to select the site for C-Pyte. The academy has to acquire 25 acres of land for the centre and site for the naval training in the lake area of Shah Nehar barrage.

The centre would provide naval training to the youths of Kandi area and after acquiring the training, they could easily join Indian Navy or Merchant Navy to earn their livelihood. Matric to BA pass youths would get training in the centre. — OC

Two youths were electrocuted in the Model Town market here today. The tragic incident took place when they were making a bore with a tool in a newly constructed building and the tool touched the high-tension wire passing overhead. The electrocuted youths have been identified as Surendra Bhagat of Kalghidhar Colony in Garha and Mahanvir, alias Beera, of Thakur Colony in Khambra.

The police sent the bodies to Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Sub-Inspector Om Prakash of police station number six stated that the owner of the newly constructed building took the youths to a nearby hospital, but they could not survive.

The police is investigating the matter after recording the statements of the family members of the deceased youths.
