Shiv Sena scare forces SRK film off theatres in Maharashtra Mumbai, February 11 Representatives of theatre owners met late this afternoon and took a decision to put off screening of the movie in the state. Multiplex owners said the final decision would be taken after consulting Khan, who is in Berlin. He is likely to face a demand that he apologise to Bal Thackeray, sources said. All the major multiplexes like Fun, Fame, Inox and Big Cinemas have decided against screening the movie. A number of single screen theatres in Mumbai like Maratha Mandir have also decided not to go ahead with the screening. Sources said some theatre owners were warned that their establishments would be burnt down if they screened MNIK. Some distributors and exhibitors have also asked producer Karan Johar to postpone the film’s release across the country till SRK sorted out the issue with Shiv Sena. However Khan remains adamant, at least for the moment. Earlier today, he tweeted that he was guilty of no wrong: “My integrity is non-negotiable… stardom is transient…
CM: Can’t force theatres, but security adequate The theatre owners’ decision has put pressure on Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who had promised full security. “It is not true that security is inadequate. We have provided full security to theatres and multiplexes across Maharashtra,” Chavan told reporters. He, however, added that the government could not force screening of the movie. |
