Two killed in shell explosion at Army firing range
Dehradun, December 13 The two labourers died on the spot and one was seriously injured in the incident. The another one, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, later went to the police and informed about the incident. The seriously injured labour was taken to a nearby hospital by the EMRI 108 ambulance. The police said it was not clear whether it was a hand grenade or a live army shell that exploded in the hands of the labourers when they tried to burn the explosive to extract metal from it. The incident happened at about 4 pm when the labourers lit and fire and put the explosive in it. The labourers, working at a nearby construction site, had gone to the firing range to gather some exploded shells and to extract copper to earn
some money. The shooting range is in the hilly area and the police had to walk on foot for about 1 km to reach the place
of incident. The police had a tough time till late in the evening while recovering the bodies of the deceased due to dark and unequal terrain. Army officials asked the police not to go to the incident site at night as there could be danger of many unexploded shells in the firing range. However, later, a police party went to
the spot. Police sub-inspector KP Singh said the labourers were working at Raipur Sports College where construction work was under way. Being Sunday, they had come to the shooting range to extract metal but when they tried to extract it the live shell exploded. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Rafique (19) and Razik (19) while the injured are Mustaq (35) and Nasir (18). in Raipur. All victims hailed from Bareily in Uttar Pradesh and were working as labourer at the college. Meanwhile, till the filing of the report, the police was in the process of taking out the bodies lying in a gorge. Senior police officers and a bomb disposal squad were present at the

ADM thinks out of box to rid hills of trash
Dehradun, December 13 Harak Singh Rawat, Additional District Magistrate, Tehri, in the Garhwal region, is a one-man army who is working for the environment. He has introduced new garbage bins under Friends of Environment Project almost three years ago in Srinagar. The dustbin has dual sections, one for the biodegradable waste (green colour) while the other for the non-biodegradable waste (red colour). Rawat, the man behind this innovation said: “These environment friendly bins are detachable and have separate sections for dry and wet garbage. These are not for the commercial use but for the individual purpose to keep the surroundings clean. The junk can be recycled, which will reduce the emanation of methane gas as well as lead to a less felling of trees.” Nobody can ever thought of fetching good income out of trash as this project can provide employment to many, from garbage collector to the Mayor, everyone can seek advantage out of this scheme. Another purpose of these dustbins is to produce electricity from methane gas, which will be another source to generate profits. “These bins will be helpful in keeping a check on the residual CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon) emitted by the garbage that has great contribution in global warming if the state government along with the municipal corporation will adopt the environment-friendly bins then we can make a difference to catastrophic mayhem of the future, ” said Singh. The bins are launched in the market in association with a renowned plastic goods manufacturing company of Haridwar in the recent time. Earlier, his endeavours incorporated dustbins made out of tins that became less famous among the people. The failure of his project in Srinagar gave Harak Singh inspiration to move forward. He took some financial help from Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) for the project. The memorandum to begin the project in Dehradun has been submitted by him to the Dehradun Municipal Corporation, which is expected to get materialised soon. Other organisation working with Harak Singh Rawat are Eco Park in Dhanaulti, Vyapaar Mandal in Nayanbagh, Nagar Palika in Srinagar and Khoka Union in Tehri. |
Fibre-post insertion ‘Durable’ treatment in tooth ailments
Dehradun, December 13 Fibre post is the only durable and firm alternative for restoring root canal treated tooth to its natural form, shape and function so that the person undergoing treatment can undertake normal activity, including chewing and biting. “The only condition is that the stump should be healthy without any infection, in case there is complete decay then implants are used,” said Dr PD Joshi, eminent endodontist, who practices in Mumbai. He was delivering a lecture today on Fibre Post and Endodontically Treated Teeth - Scientific and Clinical Perspective, organised by Dehradun Chapter of the Indian Dental Association. “Most patients come to us with the request of retaining what ever remains of their natural tooth. In our culture, loss of teeth is associated with diminishing youth and vitality, the ignominy of losing them is far greater when young. The procedure is safe and not time consuming, on an average it would cost around Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000, with an additional cost going up to Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000,” said Dr Joshi, who has treated top film stars and television personalities. On the other hand, Professor Ashwani Dhobal, consultant dental surgeon and endodontist and president of the Indian Dental Association, said earlier pre-fabricated gold metal posts were used that were fitted inside the tooth. “But now they have been replaced by glass fibre posts that help build the broken tooth, restoring to it’s normal shape and function. The restored tooth lasts a lifetime, providing not undue load is applied on it. The posts score on durability and curability as they reflect light,” said Dhobal, who pioneered tooth implant in the city and has been using fibre posts also. As of now the material or the post has not being indigenously produced and hence it has to be imported from abroad. |
