China ties not at India’s cost: US
The US on Wednesday sought to defuse a mini crisis on the eve of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Washington, after New Delhi lashed out at President Barack Obama's support for a wider role for China in South Asia, by assuring New Delhi that while it is interested in a relationship with China, this does not come at the expense of its ties with India.

A determined and aggressive Opposition pushed the government on the back foot on the opening day of the winter session of Parliament today, forcing it to offer a discussion to evolve a consensus on the proposed Bill to replace the ordinance amending the Sugar (Control) Order, 1966, at an all-party meeting proposed on Monday.

Text of N-liability Bill cleared
New Delhi, November 19
The Cabinet today cleared the text of the Civil Nuclear Liability Bill, listed for introduction in the Winter Session of Parliament that commenced today. The passage of the Bill is important for India to move forward on the implementation of the Indo-US civil nuclear agreement that fructified last year after a long and protracted political debate, bringing the last UPA government to the verge of a collapse.

Bangladesh's Supreme Court today rejected the appeals of five former army officers and confirmed death sentence on seven others, who are living abroad, for killing the country's founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members 34 years ago.

Dowry shame for Haryana, Punjab

In what could put to shame the affluent Punjab and Haryana, a Delhi-based NGO today claimed that the two states have one of the worst track records in dowry deaths and cases of cruelty against women.
