Magisterial probe ordered into child’s death Amaninder Pal Jalandhar, October 10 Child,
Sonu, son of Rajkumar Singh of Basti Danishmandaan, was admitted in hospital on October 3 with high fever. On October 6 the child was diagnosed for pneumonia involving both the lungs. As claimed by the parents, around 7 pm yesterday the child had difficulty in breathing and any doctor failed to report even up to 9 pm. “We contacted doctors a number of times but he turned up only after the baby died around 9.30 pm,” said the parents. On the other side, doctors posted in the ward claimed that the parents were told not to give any solid food to the child. But in the evening the child was given semi-solid starch food and eventually the airway passage was blocked which led to the death of the baby, said Executive Medical Superintendent Dr Balbir Singh. Dr D.P.S. Randhawa, who was present in the hospital as Resident Medical Officer, said, “I was on duty both as RMO and “on call” Surgeon. So far as the charge of my delayed reporting to the paediatrics ward is concerned, anybody can check my call record. A few minutes after the call of in charge of the paediatrics ward, I rushed to the patient.” Meanwhile two other deaths, one in the paediatrics ward and the other in the female ward have been reported in the Civil Hospital. |

Symbol of peace in
pain Jalandhar, October 10 While the top police officials, including PAP ADGP H.R. Chadha, Jalandhar (Zone) DIG Sanjiv Kalra and other senior officials of the region, were celebrating the event, the helpless birds were fluttering their wings in pain. The traumatised birds could not fly as their wings were reportedly pulled out before bringing them from a bird seller near Rama Mandi. Bird and animal lovers, however, raised objections on the release of pigeons in an official function, saying that the police officials had violated the guidelines of the Animal Board of India by releasing the pigeons. Information gathered by The Tribune revealed that the PAP authorities had procured two pairs of pigeons last evening so that certain top police officials could release them at the inaugural function. Their wings were pulled out before their release so that the birds could either return to the owner or recaptured and caged by the PAP authorities, a cop disclosed on the condition of anonymity. After hovering over the venue for nearly 10 minutes, the birds descended on the ground in pain and shock. The bird were unable to fly and even tried to flutter their wings as Tribune lensman Malkiat Singh captured them in camera just from 5 feet away. The shocked pair remained at the spot for over half an hour amid high sound of the police band and a huge gathering. As the ceremony ended, two cops approached the cameraman asking him not to release the picture of the birds. The pair was captivated by the cops. Punjab Chief Wildlife Warden R.K. Luna said that the Animal Board of India had recently issued certain guidelines on the issue. “I am not aware of the exact guidelines and could not comment on the issue immediately,” he added. |
