‘SAD-BJP causing loss to paddy growers’
Tribune News Service

Gurdaspur, October 6
Senior Congress leader and former Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, today accused the ruling SAD-BJP alliance of conniving with the businessmen to cause colossal losses to the paddy grower by not carrying out the procurement of same in a smooth manner.

In a press note issued here this evening, Randhawa alleged the farmers of Punjab had been suffering due to sluggish paddy procurement in grain markets of the state as the paddy growers were being looted by the private entrepreneurs, who had been purchasing the same at less price than the minimum support price.

In some pockets, the farmers had been forced to sell their paddy produce at the rate, which was about Rs 100 less than the MSP, he claimed.

He said there was immediate need to speed up procurement and clearance of paddy stocks, which had piled up in grain markets. As per the prediction, the bad weather could hit Punjab in coming days and could add to the woes of the farmers, who were already facing difficult times due to slow procurement.
