Another 100 MW for Punjab, Haryana
Centre also to bear 50 pc subsidy on diesel
to farmers
News Delhi, July 24
The Union government today announced an additional 100 MW power from the central pool to Punjab and Haryana for timely completion of paddy transplantation and to protect the already sown crops. The Centre also announced to bear 50 per cent of subsidy on diesel offered to farmers by states. And as a contingent measure to deal with deficient rainfall, it said all exports of non-Basmati rice and wheat had been stopped.

Court refuses to stay probe against Modi
Ahmedabad, July 24
The Gujarat High Court today dismissed a petition seeking a stay on a probe by a Supreme Court-appointed panel against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet colleagues for their alleged role in the 2002 communal violence in the state.

3 students held on charge of ragging
Hisar, July 24
Three students of College of Veterinary Sciences of CCS Haryana Agricultural University were arrested last night on a charge of ragging freshers. They have been identified as Amit, Devendra and Vishal. Three others — Chirag, Abhimanyu and Parveen Yadav — were reported to be missing.

CAG rips through Defence Ministry
Slams purchase of aircraft carrier
New Delhi, July 24
Pointing out to the biggest irregularity so far that led to an unprecedented hike in price in the purchase of defence equipment, the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) of India today “ripped” through the Ministry of Defence. Quoting an example, it said more than double the price was paid for the purchase of the multi-billion dollar sea-based aircraft carrier, Admiral Gorshkov from Russia.
