No one wants war: PM
New Delhi, December 23
Amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan over the Mumbai terror attack, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said, “nobody wants war”. He firmly warned Islamabad that New Delhi would not accept a situation in which terrorism was used as an instrument to cripple the Indian economy.

Kayani: Pak to respond within minutes
Islamabad, December 23
Pakistan’s armed forces will mount an equal response “within minutes” if India carries out any surgical strike inside the country, army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has reportedly assured the nation’s leadership.

Pursue cases against LeT

The chairman of the US joint chiefs of staff, admiral Michael Mullen, has asked Pakistani leaders to prosecute cases against members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the militant group behind the Mumbai terror attacks that killed 179 people.

Pakistan, which faces accusations of being in constant denial mode after the Mumbai terror attacks, today claimed it had no record of Ajmal Amir Iman, alias Ajmal Kasab, the lone captured terrorist, but promised to respond by tomorrow to his letter seeking legal assistance from it.

Prima facie holding security cover was more of a status symbol for so many pseudo VIPs, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has made it clear that escort and pilot vehicles shall accompany only the Chief Ministers, the Speaker and the Chief Justice.

Procured wheat rots in the open
Sirhind, December 23
Thousands of tonnes of wheat procured by the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation this season and stored in the open has been rotting at some places in the state. Procured in May this year, it was stored on open plinths and fields rented by the agency. At Kotla Bhai Ke village, fungus has appeared in hundreds of wheat bags and at Dera Miran Mir village thousands of tonnes of wheat has been infested with insects, besides rotting due to fungus.
