Schoolgirl run over by truck

A student was killed in an accident at Khanna at around 2 pm today. She was on her way from school to her house at Bhamaddi village. The victim, Perneet Kaur, was a student of Class XII at A.S. Modern Senior School, Khanna.

Cops need tougher training, better arms: Badal

Not clearing his stand on the central government’s proposal for a federal security agency in the wake of the Mumbai attacks, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said: “We don’t want to be an obstacle in the formation of the central agency, but would prefer if the central government imparts the same training to the state police.”

23-yr-old woman succumbs to injuries

A 23-year-old newly married woman today succumbed to her injuries inflicted allegedly by her husband and mother in-law for dowry. The victim, Maninder Kaur, a resident of New Shakti Nagar, was married to an Amritsar resident, Ravinderjit Singh, on February 21.

Winter has brought more chaos and traffic snarls on city roads. A large number of shopkeepers bask in the sun and keep goods on pavements, adding to traffic chaos. Traffic in the area moves at a snail’s pace, leading to serpentine queues during peak hours. School-going children and office-goers are the worst sufferers during afternoon and evening hours.
