Lakshmi Iyer has been crowned Mrs Millennium City 2008 in an event organised by LeagueOne, a retail marketing company. Shruti Bansal has been declared the first runner up while Vandana Mathur grabbed the second runner up title. The company organised the event for the first time exclusively for married women of the city at DLF City Club here recently. Ten selected contestants celebrated their womanhood in style by actively participating in the contest with four rounds of ramp walks followed by a questions and answers session to judge the perfect combination of beauty and brain.

Post-facelift, Ferozshah Mahal gets more visitors
Hisar, December 4
The archives department has recently renovated Ferozshah Mahal here at a cost of Rs 10 lakh. The restoration exercise has led to an increase in the number of visitors to the palace. These also include groups of students from local colleges and universities. Assistant conservator B.B. Kaul said his department was concerned over increasing encroachments around important historical sites in the district and despite repeated notices to shopkeepers to remove encroachments, none of them heeded to the pleas.

Job scheme benefits 1700 households
Jhajjar, December 4
The ambitious central government-funded National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) is proving a boon for poor farmers, unemployed youths and women of the rural areas in the district. This scheme is ensuring an income of Rs 6,000 per annum to the poor. Employment of 52,832 man-days has so far been generated and nearly 1700 households have been benefited under this ambitious scheme.

With the Lok Sabha elections drawing near, the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government has launched a vigorous campaign to publicise its achievements during the past three- and- a half- year. In the month- long campaign that began on December 1, the publicity wing of the information and public relations department has been asked to reach out to each and every village of the state.

Murrah buffaloes face extinction: Experts
Rohtak, December 4
Among other things, the district is famous for its murrah breed of buffaloes. However, experts have cautioned that murrah may be a thing of the past if attention is not paid towards its upkeep and trading practices, besides scientific methods of cattle and dairy farming. There are about 3.40 lakh murrah buffaloes in the district out of a total of about 60 lakh in the state.

Norms relaxed for posts of Hindi teacher

The Haryana Staff Selection Commission has decided to consider the candidates who have passed BA with Hindi as one of the elective subject, BEd with Hindi as a teaching subject and MA in Hindi, eligible for the posts of Hindi teacher.

Flouting building laws with impunity seems to have become an article of faith with local Mahabir Dal Hospital, run by a charitable trust. Even as building plans in respect of some structures already raised had not been approved by the municipal council, it went ahead with more such constructions in the name of charity.

400 take part in children’s science congress

The 16th state-level National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) that concluded here recently. It was held under the auspices of Haryana Vigyan Manch (Rohtak), in R.B.S. Model Public School. 400 students from over 100 senior secondary as well as high schools of the 18 districts of the state participated in this two-day science congress.
