A raiding PSEB team found out at Dharamvir Bakshi’s house at Tajpur that a magnet had been placed on the electricity meter to stop its working. Chaudhury said the consumer got agitated when caught red-handed and then he brought out a pistol. He asked the raiding team to hand him over the magnet but when the employees did not yield to his threats, he fired two shots in the air to intimidate them, he added. While Sekhon could not be contacted despite repeated attempts, Kler said the executive engineer concerned would be in a position to comment on this as he knew the details of the case better. At the same time, he added that if anyone tried to create hindrance in the duty of the raiding party by resorting to violent means, the board would definitely get an FIR registered against that consumer. |

Govt decision against Sankalp Divas unfortunate: PPCC
Gurdaspur, October 25 In a press note issued here, Bahl said Sankalp Divas was observed as a mark of respect to those martyrs who had laid down their lives for the protection of unity and integrity of the country. He added late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi also did the same for the sake of unity and integrity of India and hence Sankalp Divas was observed as a mark of respect to that departed soul. He said the SAD-BJP government seemed to have taken a decision to discontinue the observance of Sankalp Divas for its political compulsions, but the leaders of these parties must be aware of the fact that martyrs did not belong to a particular caste, religion, sect or party. He said the ruling politicians had shown their narrow mindset by deciding not to observe October 31 as Sankalp Divas. He added that he had urged the Congressmen to come forward to keep this tradition alive in their respective areas. |
